Even though this brilliant project has been shelved, it lives on as what would have been my perfect car. Found these photos - Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't bet on that. Alfa displayed the 8C Competizione Spyder for the 1st time publicly at Monterey. It could be a get flagship for Alfa built on a shared chassis with Maserati. Joe
The last remains of the failed GM partnership with Alfa is the Kappa chassis on which the Pontiac Solstice is being built. This chassis was under the 8C spyder at Monterey. It is likely the 8C spyder will go into production on this platform. Eric
It is gorgeous. Perhaps it was a temporary shelving while they reorganized everything. Keep your fingers crossed. Forza, Cavallini
I thought the saturn Sky shared the same underpinnings as the Solstice also, but this is by far the prettiest of the bunch. Gets my vote!
hello - first time on this thread - bellissimo - saw this car at a car show and rushed to the dealer who brought in the car to indicate my interest - much has been said on the subject - the car was designed in house at Alfa - the Fiat boss - who was also the ex - maser/ferrari boss - killed the project as he openly said it would have been a direct competitor for the new maser coupe -he was right -I suspect many on this page would buy this car rather than any maser coupe - there was however still a chance that the car might have been green lighted until Alfa announced that the Ital design Brera would be the new GTV. All hope was lost by that time. it is very unlikely that Alfa will make the 8C concept as a step up from the Brera / new GTV line up would put the car on par with the entry level maser, which was the reason why it was killed to begin with. There is also no place in the range for 2 cars of the same class. It would effectively kill the new GTV if they came out with it.
To me, I wish they would come out with this as a 6C Competizione, keep it simple and light much like the Elise and directly compete with the Cayman. It would kick the Porsche's butt in sales as this would be an instant classic of all time; the Cayman, while dynamically brilliant, is another Boxster. Luca missed a huge opportunity on this one.
Yeah, but anyway, who would have serviced the car ? Alfa ? heu heu heu And what would they lend you in the meantime ? A Cinquecento ? And you wait in the middle of guys driving Alfa 147s ? No way. Too bad, as the car is drop dead sexy. Saw it in the flesh in Geneva 2 years ago, really cute.
They might build it. Since in NA IF they do decide to return ALFA will share dealerships with Maserati and will not have the cheaper 147 models. Where I live, BMW shares the salesfloor with subaru and huyndai.
Yes, exactly - the Maserati dealer service manger told me yesterday that the word on the street was they would be selling NA Alfas in 07. This would complete the line up of 'prestige brands: Alfa, Maserati and Ferrari. Of course, to me, the Alfa name still carries way more umph than Maserati as I remember only the old days.... Still hoping for that 6C Competizione tin the Cayman price range.... they would blow Porsche's doors off on looks alone.
Alfa hasn't had more "ump" than Maserati (or Ferrari) since 1952 with the 158& 159. After that they became an upscale Fiat. Joe
We disagree I guess. Much like Ferrari, it was the racing program that gave Alfa umph. I well remember the type 33s and F1 programs. Even a 105 series Alfa is far more elegant than a Biturbo. And again just to me, after the Orsis sold out, Maserati was just a redheaded half French stepchild with weirdness. I'm glad to see they are coming back in design and racing.
He's REALLY OLD, but you seem to have forgotten the GTA's, tipo 33's, the Brabham Fan car, the Euro touring cars,.... Maser hasn't done much since the 50's. But that is still better than Bentley. COnsidering it was an Audi in Bentley drag.
Your right I forgot about the 33's, brain fart. They're very cool. The street cars, well that's a different story.
Time for another resurrection of an ol' thread. Don't know the age or venue of this video, but it's about the 8C. It sounds like a Maserati GT out of my cheapie speakers hmmm .... http://www.hellfire.it/videoraduniegare/8c.mpg Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think I dated her. but seriously, every couple of years I see a great design that, practically before the first pictures are printed, the official word is that the car will never be produced. Why tease us? and I'm not talking about one-off design polemics, whether by GM in the 50s or Pininfarina (i.e., the Mythos). I'm talking about perfectly viable designs, like this 8C, on consumer-friendly platforms where there would definitely be a market. I guess I just don't understand the politics/economics of how a car gets from drawing board to production. Now I'm just pissed at Alfa . . .
I adore this car. They need to drop a Alfa 300 hp V-6 in a lightweight 6C version of this and go after the Cayman in the $50K bracket. I'd buy one today.
I was so pissed off at Alfa I bought a Ferrari. Not a bad move, I might add, but I was tired of waiting for these dates of "Alfa's Return" that never seemed to materialize. The 8C does look awesome. I hope they will (someday) build it. Perhaps with the current GTA 3.2V6 motor (fast), and one with the Maserati V8 motor (furious).
