No Ferrari, but we all know Ferrari wouldn't excist if Alfa hadn't been there. This AR 179 F1 was displayed at a technical school in Roermond a few weeks ago. It seems to be driven in the classic F1 tropheo or something. Think I saw this one driving at Spa a few years ago. some info about this car: Alfa Romeo 179 Active Years 1979-82 Another Carlo Chiti model that saw a tight, responsive chassis mated to the powerful Alfa V12. In a career that spanned three years the car netted 14 points from 61 outings with the highlight coming in 1980 at Watkins Glen when Bruno Giacomelli stuck the car on pole. The 179 was a direct evolution of the 177 but was fitted with the 1260 series V-12 power unit. The design was constantly in a state of revision during late '79 and most of 1980 as the team struggled to get the car competitive. The team seemed to get to grips with the ground-effect concept only to have all their work undermined by the ban on sliding skirts - introduced in 1981. Progress was also seriously set-back when Patrick Depailler was killed at Hockenheim while running trials on the latest developments.
