Alfa Romeo is a team that could go up next year. Team principal, Vasseur, claims that the budget cap will bring the outfit nearer the top teams. Also they expect Bottas to benefit the team. Zhou will be the unknown.
Now this looks like a hot thread...1 week and it has received exactly 1 comment. I can't think of an F1 team that generates more snores than Alfa Romeo. If Bottas falls by the wayside they can always bring in another rising star like Hulkenberg or maybe one of the F1 announcers. And Vasseur thinks that capping everyone's budget will improve Alfa's chances by making the other teams as slow as Alfa is? Are there any changes in the aero or engines that is unique to Alfa for 2022? Any new engineering or design personnel bringing in new ideas that go beyond using hand me down parts from Ferrari? Beside hiring Zhou in order to sell more cars in China, is there any indication that Alfa takes F1 seriously? I love my 2021 Giulia...but the chassis and engine have been in production for seven years without a single upgrade, is now being phased out, and there are zero replacements for it waiting in the wings. Can anyone name a single thing Alfa brings to F1 that is worth even the garage space? This is sad.
well said. FCA got the Alfa name into F1 for marketing purposes and now aren’t going to have products to market due to the stupid Stellantis hookup. Alfa over time could have built up the brand but then again electric vehicles appear to be the future so there’s that consideration. A bigger SUV And a spider replacement would have been nice, as well as updates to the Giulia and Stelvio. I gotta get me a Giulia before they go away…
First and foremost, it's the Swiss Sauber team. It happens that it is sponsored by Alfa at the moment. Sauber is independent, owned by a group of Scandinavian investors (I believe).
Sauber’s the reason I have hope…… If Lance can finish on the podium sometimes, there’s no reason why a similar miracle can’t occur for Alfa-(Sauber). I can take them failing to deliver, part of their heritage is falling short, but scrapping over ‘best of Q1’ is tough to take. Unfortunately, they’ve increasingly muddied the distance between hapless and hopeless.
Agree-but the sponsorship, like all sponsorships, was done to market Alfa who will soon have nothing of any value to market.
Grab a Giulia now. Shop around for the one you want...with the options you do (and without the ones you don't) want...and drive the wheels off of it. You will not be disappointed. The base 2 liter engine is all the entertainment you need in the real world. The Quadrifoglio seems overkill for the real world and better suited for a track car. I am even shocked at how well the run flat tires perform on it. My first Giulia had Bridgestone, the new one has Perilli. I'm am impressed with both.
I’m amazed there are still true Alfisti out there. There are a couple of Stelvios and a Giulia I see now and then although the nearest dealer is 600 miles away. Too much work for a daily.
Alfa sales have fallen by 20% in 2020, and 28% in 2021. The USA are now their main market with 18 586 sales, and Italy their second with 17 200 in 20201. Overall sales were only 61 000 units. That tells you all there is to know about Alfa's chances of survival. Even the Stellantis umbrella may not be enough to secure its future.
It seems real confusing to read about, there are some individuals involved in both I guess. From what I read the Swiss financial rules don't require a lot of disclosure.
Quite recently, I read that the Rausing family was involved with Sauber, so I put 2 and 2 together and assumed that Tetra Pack was one of the investors. Originally a Swedish company, Tetra Pack is now registered in Switzerland. They were sponsoring Marcus Ericsson in the past.
Strangely, I'm finally seeing more Guilias and Stelvios in Los Angeles than I ever did in the Alfetta through 164 eras in the 70s through the early 90s. And the Giulia is an amazing car. It would be ironic if they were able to succeed as an EV after all their history producing such great gasoline engines. But here it is in Stellantis' own words..."from 2024 Alfa Romeo becomes Alfa e-Romeo." A Bright Future Ahead | Stellantis All very sad.
There are 14 different brands in Stellantis, so we can expect some rationalization in future. There will be a massive tug of war between the US, the French, the German and the Italian as to which brands to keep, I expect. Will Alfa Romeo survive the culling ? Nothing is less certain. As for the switch to EVs, it's forced by legislation, on this side of the Atlantic at least, so no escape from that. Yes, it's very sad, but FIAT ownership already precipitated Alfa's decline, IMO.
the drop is more due to the Chip shortage than simply demand. Showrooms stay fairly empty in the Bay Area
Judging by what I see here in Western Europe, the poor dealer network has been one of the reasons for the decline of Alfa sales. It seems that no one is interested in selling Alfa Romeos anymore, and the dealers left look like dodgy operations.
There is a spy film of the Alfa at Fiorano on Twitter. I don't "do social" but this link may work. Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date The car certainly sounds better than the 2021 cars.
