Since we have only Alfa model threads and no real just Alfa news threads I am starting another one. A lot going on at FIAT regarding Alfa Romeo and Maserati. Here is the first post.

    http://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/motori/news-motori/2017/10/25-32914423/marchionne_ci_sara_un_po_di_alfa_nel_prossimo_suv_maserati_/?cookieAccept&cookieAccept

    "
As often happens during the conference in which the financial results of the FCA group are presented, Sergio MacDonald has dwelt on some hot topics, one on all the second Maserati SUV that is waiting for the 2020 and will use the same platform Giorgio Of the Stelvio, but will have different engines than those of Alfa Romeo. Conceptually it will be a direct rival of the Porsche Macan, or a crossover within the 4.70 meters very exclusive and sporty.

With regard to Alfa Romeo, MacDonald confirmed that operations in China are lagging behind, with the beginning of the distribution that has not complied with the objectives set due to technical delays due to the adaptation of the product to the Chinese market. On the Jeep side, instead, it approaches the great day of the debut of the new generation of the Wrangler, which is scheduled for the month of December and could coincide with the Los Angeles show.

After two months, in January 2018, it will touch the new pickup Ram 1500 that in the United States has a very important market, while later will arrive an unprecedented pick-up branded Jeep. MacDonald then spoke about Magneti Marelli, confirming that the off from the FCA group is an operation that will be discussed in 2018 (when a detailed industrial plan will be published) on which the board of Directors has already expressed a positive opinion.

Finally, the ad of FCA also spoke of the autonomous guide confirming the confidence on the partnrship with BMW, Mobileye and Intel «The goal is to ensure a reliable and functioning product. Around many are experiencing, but most of the start ups will disappear. If you chase risk losing yourself. I have heard enough criticism, but the truth is that this matter is complex, it will take time and effort: You do not have to go behind the chatter, there are no shortcuts and running too much risk is to destroy value».

    Here is the old thread:

"Will the Giulia GT get approval for the brand of the Biscione for the 2019? Sergio MacDonald has been a strong on tips on Alfa Romeo (and Maserati) for years. They are two Italian brands of Fiat Chrysler automobiles called to carve out an important space in the premium market. That is the one that allows you to have the biggest margins, but also a prestige that would give impetus to the entire FCA group. For the other models Maserati is closing the final designs for Ghibli, Quattroporte, GranTurismo, GranCabrio, Levante and the future medium SUV. Alfa Romeo has been acclaimed by the critics with the Stelvio and Giulia, and the Giulietta and MiTo are at the end of the career. Two models cannot tow a brand that aims at least to quadruple its sales volumes."

The Italian automaker officially opened the order books today – Thursday, November 2, 2017 – in certain markets, at least. The announcement was made for Europe, with customers in the UK to begin receiving theirs (with the steering wheel on the other side) next summer. Last we heard, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio was set to arrive in North American showrooms early in the new year, so hopefully we won't have to wait much longer.

"Last month of October Alfa Romeo in America sold 1205 cars. It relates to a fine month and is in line with the months before. So far the counter stands for 2017 on 8557 units. That's more than the best sales year ever for Alfa Romeo in the US, namely 1986, when a total of 8201 cars were sold. At the time, the 75 (in the US Milano was called, see photo) and the Spider was a relative success."(and the GTV6. Milano silver started at around $12,000.00 US wich put the car in the hands of people who were looking at VW's).

Alfa Romeo back to F1 with Italian driver

"Alfa Romeo returns next season in F1 and the Italian Antonio Giovinazzi would crawl behind the wheel. A nice Italian party so as an ideal advertising pillar for the brand from Arese/Portello. We could already mention recently that after several times the desire of Marchionne to have been heard, there was finally confirmation from a completely different angle. Sauber says soon to be able to report more about an upcoming collaboration. With Giovinazzi and F2 champion Leclerc, the Swiss team will have a close partnership with Alfa Romeo, in which the identity of the brand and the Italian descent will be well visible. The engines come from FCA and are of course originally from Maranello. Sauber has already talked about a ' completely new car ' for 2018."

Alfa F1 2018???..... Since Ferrari has signed with Sauber for 2018 the car engines could be rebranded as Alfa Romeo. We will see. I think F1 is a waste of money and sportscar racing would be cheaper and more appealing to fans. This could all be made up, so who knows.

    Article from September:

    https://auto.ndtv.com/news/could-sauber-be-re-branded-as-alfa-romeo-next-year-1745482

"The Sauber F1 Team could make an announcement about introducing its new driver for 2018, but the rumour of being re-branded as Alfa Romeo, is what has got us really interested."

"Alfa Romeo is not complaining about the first sales results in the US and is working on a further expansion of the range. According to leaked lists to local dealers there is a 350 hp version of the Giulia in the parade, which will place itself between the Quadrifoglio and the 280 hp strong TI ( Veloce). Alfa Romeo is in the US a niche brand in the higher segment and so one mainly puts on richly equipped versions with powerful engines. The 350 hp is according to insiders a 2.0 turbo that is coupled to FCA's new 48v ' Mild Hybrid ' system."

Remember when Macgeek told us about this around a year ago!!!

Thank you Macgeek....Anymore interesting info you want to tell us about for future Alfa Romeo products?

    New Zagato TZ....

"2019 is Zagato 100 years and so it is the Centenario. Of course, Zagato wants to celebrate this with a special car and the choice seems to have fallen on a reincarnation of the Alfa Romeo TZ. That sounds familiar? Indeed, they already built the TZ3 but this time serves an Alfa Romeo as a base. Zagato came earlier with the TZ3, a kind of modern interpretation based on a Viper. Nice of course, but nothing to do with the original. It seems Zagato itself is the new body builder coming with a real new TZ based on the Alfa Romeo Giulia. It is not a vague gossip that has been captured somewhere, Andrea Zagato told this highly personally in the English magazine Auto Italia."

Alfa Sauber F1 deal done. 2 year agreement. Ferrari motors in a rebadged Sauber chassis.

The article has incorrect Alfa F1 history. They ran in F1 in 1950-1951 and returned with McLaren
in 1970-1971 as a supplier with the uncompetitive Alfa V8. They then came back in 1976 with Brabham in 1979 until Brabham dumped them after 2 victories in favor of the Ford Coswoth V8 in late 1979. Alfa ran it's own F1 chassis and engine combo starting in 1977 and ended with Euroracing in 1985. They also worked with Ligier in 1987 on a turbo motor and assisted Minardi with rebadged motors up to 1987.

Alfa also supplied V8 motors to March around 1970-1971. They were not successful. It was a very good sportscar motor but was still not up to F1 standards. Rumor is that Auto Delta was able to get a Ford Cosworth and reverse engineer it after the new Alfa 3.0 V8's had reliability and power issues in 1969.

Actually this is a good deal for Alfa. It's LeMans that's the waste of money. The USA and China are the biggest growth markets for Alfa and neither care about LeMans.

All that is happening is they are taking the Ferrari engines they were going to be selling to Sauber and rebranding them as Alfa Romeo. Most likely, Sauber is now getting the engines for free and getting near to the latest spec. Ferrari probably doesn't make any money on selling engines anyway so it's good to have the brand in the biggest auto sport in the world 20 times a year. And, their driver Leclerc looks like a future superstar who will take Kimi's seat in a year or even less.

And, it's good for the sport of F1. Getting another major car maker brand involved (Aston Martin is doing it next year with Red Bull) will buck up a lesser team and make the grid more competitive and interesting. And the Alfisti can show now their true enthusiast colors.

It's a win-win-win-win for all. Sauber wins, Alfa wins, F1 wins, and the fans win

In your opinion. What got more car media press, the new 2015 Ford GT or the 2015 Ferrari F1?(without looking name the Ferrari 2015 F1 car) For a big splash and then sale of Alfa Romeo this does make sense but in the long term F1 is a waste of money if you compare dollar returns from it.
A lot of people in America don't even know what F1 is. They do know sportscars as they see them on the road all the time.

    Huh?

If Alfa built one super car and raced it one time at LeMans, you think that beats to 20 races in the biggest racing series of the world? If that was the case, F1 would collapse TOMORROW.

Manufacturers invest in F1 because it works. Mercedes would walk tomorrow if it didn't. Look at lowly Honda. They are not giving up.

For the amount of money they are getting a back marker car in F1 they could build a Lemans race winner. That would get them a lot more press. F1 used to be great, now it has turned into a spec series with lousy sounding engines.

But I do agree this will be a good thing, just not worth the money they are spending on it.
