If you don't watch the Bring a Trailer auctions on-line you are missing a great car experience...especially with Alfas over the last six or seven months. The 105 coupes have taken off, easily in the $35,000 range, and today a fantastic 1969 GTV 1750 sold for $111,000. That's right...no typos involved. An Alfa Dealer sign went for $9,000. And the 105/115 Spiders, S1 through S4 are all starting to ride the same rising tide. Check it all out. The auctions are great fun to watch...and join in by sharing your own Alfa knowledge.

I guess now is a good time to sell, not buy. I have a fuel injected 1969 1750 GTV with a serial number starting with #153 and I will keep it. That is the series they made all the factory 1750 GTAM's from. It costs alot to get them perfect so not as much profit as you might think(although your an Alfa guy so you know).

Agreed. I just posted on the Mondial thread the prices on BAT. I think it's part inflation and part insanity of the market.

Lots of factors from all directions are pulling money into vintage cars. BaT is getting the best of the offerings because they are doing a great job. If some people don't like them, well so be it. But the fans find BaT a great show and they have cars and vehicles for every type of collector and enthusiast. The viewers enjoy the discussions about the cars. And the way the auctions work means that there can't be any eBay style of sniping at the end.

Economically, the only part of the market that makes dollars and cents and common sense is when enthusiasts are chasing excellent examples of great drivers that have previously been undervalued. The Alfa GTVs, and now the Spiders...and soon the GTV6s and Milanos...are all finding their days in the sun. Modest ways to enjoy the Ferrari experience have enjoyed their time as well...the 308s, 308 GT4, Mondials...and Maseratis you had trouble giving away are suddenly $75k and up. The first generation of the water-cooled Porsche 911, the 996.1, is one of the big rags to riches BaT stories of the last year.

And obviously COVID gave BaT an audience that probably didn't have time for online auctions before the pandemic.

For the right car and the right circumstances, I'd be very comfortable buying a car on BaT...even if I couldn't go see it in person and drive it.

but in the end heres the rub.....it might sound cavalier, but money is money, you can always make more....your GTV is unique, they aren't making more...
I could sell my E30 M3 for more than it cost me in 89. Why?? it ain't gonna change my life.

Here's the reason to sell specific to my Mondial. (I don't have an Alfa) I can no longer justify spending $5,000 - $7,500 on a major service, plus, brakes, fluids, etc. on a car worth maybe $40-$50,000. It does not make sense having to do that every 7-10 years. (I've had mine since 1994) Also, I will only have work performed by an authorized dealer. Some owners are ok having non-authorized service shops work on their cars. That's fine, but I won't. It's just the way I am.

If I had, say, a Lusso, 275, 330 GTC, or even a 512BB I could rationalize and justify the cost of spending that kind of money for a big service job. Sure, spending $10K on a $1,000,000 Ferrari makes sense. It no longer does the other way around.

My 40 year Mondial is barely broken in with less than 12,000 miles.............factory dealer to have an oil and fluid change.......$400. Crazy.

That's the reason. No, it won't change my life to sell the car; but at this point in time I will actually save money. Yes, I love the car. Yes, the car is a great runner for what it is. However, I think it's time and it's tough for me to justify the cost.

agree John. As luck has it I have a very highly rated seller probably 7 miles from me that I watch regularly. Has nice cars and the shop they are affiliated with I’ve used before with good results.
