I thought I would start a thread where we can post the various Alfas that come up for sale on eBay. Here's a white 1991 Alfa Romeo 164S Sportivo with only 25k miles on it. The guy got some girl to pose with the car for the eBay pics. The bid price is low so far. And it is near where I live. Are these cars fun to own? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Alfa-Romeo-Other-26-000-mile-near-virgin-1991-Alfa-Romeo-164S-Sportivo-/190648884814?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2c638f1e4e Pics. I saw this. The S was the best but overall, the 164 is not a very reliable car. Big torque steer for the FWD. I'm also leery of any car with the first generation ABS. The Milano and the 164 were Alfa's first use of it. I think the price is way out of line too high, even with such remarkably low mileage. Sorry. I'd rather have a GTV-6. About as much trouble but better looking and more fun to drive.
The engine may still be ok, but the various components of the car are the problem. Switches on the dash fail too and replacing them is not easy as they were made just for the 164 and are not common to other cars. Your best bet would be to buy another 164 for parts...
i have the same car but black on black with 70k miles. great car and if properly maintained it's pretty trouble free
Great cars to drive but they dont yet have the collectors cachet that a GTV6 or even Milano Verde do, so they might be a money pit if the previous owner hasn`t done the maintenance. Things to look out for: -Timing belt, tensioners, water pump - steering rack -eletronic suspension -various switches -heater core -stepper gears -motor mount -various engine seals Generally speaking they were a huge leap forward in quality compared to the Milano but also more complexe. Make sure all receits are availalbe and the engine runs the way it should.
I know two people that used to own similar car. Both no longer own them lol. Constant electrical issues. I think they are still nice and great, not sure if I would daily drive it.
you mention alfas on eBay, check this! GREAT car! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320871731909+&viewitem=#ht_969wt_1049
Agree, very neat car. A 1969 Alfa Romeo GTA Junior Stradale. Wow, a lightweight racer that has an aluminum body and magnesium driveline components. Kind of pricey at $135,000 but a rare car. . Image Unavailable, Please Login

having provocativly dressed women pose with your item on ebay really works! I did it with a G55 and sold it in 4 days. Theres no way this car would get 7000 hits otherwise LOL
