Which would you rather see: a being from another world or another dimension? Ok the alien could be from both. Do you believe in ghosts or aliens? Have you seen one? I think I may have seen a ghost once & I know my friend did – my grandfather. When I was a kid strange person walking down the stairs in the middle of the night – no one was up there. My friend described my grandfather to a T sitting in his chair while we walked through the room. Keep hoping a UFO will land in my backyard. What have you seen?

Interesting how know one has ever written a screen play about ghosts taken over the earth.

Considering the vast-ness of the known universe, the number of stars, orbiting planetary objects, etc. Mathematically, it is statistically certain that there are other planets out there that are capable of sustaining life. Not necessarily life as WE know it, but there are other planets with atmosphere capable of sustaining naturally-occuring organisms. Whether said organisms have advanced or evolved to the level of complexity of humans or beyond is anyone's guess - it is possible, but I doubt it. It is also possible that life exists in another universe that has NOT - small-scale cellular organisms and plant-life within a self-sustaining microcosm.

The psychological impact of finding, or contacting, life on other planets would have to be WELL managed - think about it. There are legitimate reasons why life outside our known universe would NOT want to contact us - we couldn't handle it. Humanity would have a global freak-out of biblical proportions. The world's major religions would come into-question or serious doubt. Mass hysteria and panic. Fear of invasion/disease/colonization/"Whatever"......Hollywood has made HUGE bank on envisioning the 'worst case scenario' of such an event, and all rational thought on the subject would be lost in the paranoia of fear of the unknown.

For the record I don't believe in either aliens visiting us or ghosts hanging around. But with that said I acknowledge it is possible.

    Aliens
The vastness of the Universe almost ensures that somewhere there are living creatures. Whether they are a billion years behind us on the evolutionary scale, or even a million years ahead, both are equally likely. The question is motivation, as well as a paradox with technology. Why would they waste resources visiting us in person, when if they could transport their own bodies, they definitely have the technology to send AI beings. And then if they know what we look like, why not make this being indistiguishable from us? If nothing else, assuming they can move millions of light years easily, they certainly would also have the technology to avoid detection. So basically even if they are here, we would never know it unless they want us to know. Then the question is why they wouldn't just announce rather than leaving the debate. BTW, IMO real interaction with an alien race would illicit reaction about like the movie Contact, with some people praying and some going completely nuts.

    Ghosts
I suppose anything is possible, but the idea of ghosts or spirits appearing to us or speaking through a medium seems a bit middle ages to me. No one has so much as photographed a ghost in any credible, repeatable way. Still love ghost stories though, Nicole Kidman's The Others was especially enjoyable.

Yeah, the X Files movie. I think it is safe to say the government would know of a major contact. But what about a minor one? Maybe these aniens are just screwing around & visit just a few people. Just saying I'd let one in if I found it fumbling around in my backyard.
As for ghosts, they are already here.

I don't think so.....says "Phantoms,an alien life form." Ghosts are local.

In the year 2065, a future Earth is infested by Phantoms: alien life forms capable of killing humans by physical contact. The remaining humans living in "barrier cities" all over the world are engaged in an ongoing struggle to free the planet. After being infected by a Phantom during one of her experiments, Aki Ross (Ming-Na) and her mentor, Dr. Sid (Donald Sutherland), uncover a means of defeating the Phantoms by gathering eight spirit signatures that, when joined, can negate the Phantoms. Aki is searching for the sixth spirit in the ruins of New York City when she is cornered by Phantoms but is rescued by Gray Edwards (Alec Baldwin) and his squad "Deep Eyes", consisting of Ryan Whittaker (Ving Rhames), Neil Fleming (Steve Buscemi) and Jane Proudfoot (Peri Gilpin). It is revealed that Gray was once romantically involved with Aki.

Another dimension i.e. ghosts... it'll give credible thought to the afterlife for non-believers.

The 'Government' is a revolving door of personnel - the concept of such a secret being kept as-such isn't realistic. There are National Security interests, and there's stuff like this - we would know if such an event happened. "We" are already listening for RF signals that arrive through our atmosphere from other galaxies. The VLA Radio Telescope in New Mexico, for instance. The SETI project. LOTS of non-Government entities are looking, and listening.

On the flip-side, ET might be listening to US, and decide "no thanks" - RF energy in vaccuum/free-space transmitting from Earth has been travelling at the speed of light throughout the universe for over 50 years now. RF radio and television signals blasted out into the cosmos, in a variety of languages. If there is intelligent life out there, and they have the capability to receive RF and decode simple RF modulation schemes, 'they' know we're here. I wonder what they think of all those original episodes of Star Trek.....Shatner might have fans he never imagined.

LOL ....if "they" saw the star trek series that would be the reason they would take a left at the moon and look other places for intelligent life. I knew there was a reason they didn't stay.
