Great Idea to go back to the original color... don't care what color it was... Love Blue Chiaro one of the nicest blues they offered. Fact is, your Dino will be worth more .... in my book. Good luck Steve
here in continental Europe red is a discount on a Dino.... was a premium in the 90`s, what a change...
#7098 (see posts 227/228 on this thread ) has original oro chiaro met paint which will polish up beautifully . Unfortunately it has several scratches and two parking-type dings that will need to be repaired - one in the rh door another in the rh front wheelarch which also involves the ' flare ' . These dings will not pull out and will need proper but relatively simple repair . My questions really are these - assuming the old paint does polish up well is it feasable to blend in new paint at the localized repair site , or will blending need to be over a wider area ? Is blending feasable at all given the old-tech paint used in 1973 ? It is a very original low km car and I consider a full respray to be a last resort . Any experiences in trying to blend 40 yo metallic paints or other thoughts would be gratefully received .
Personally i have rosso chiaro(duller) but nuovo or just giallo fly is really nice. Also nice is Giallo Dino 20-Y-348
is red still a discount in europe if it was the orig color? if red was orig color, it should then command a premium, jmho..... ed
not red generally, but Rosso Chiaro is seen as a no go by a majority of interested parties these days (including me)... Rosso Bordeaux or Rosso Cordoba Met. for example are much different and Rosso Dino gets more and more loved because of it`s 70`s spirit.... but end of the day it`s always personal taste... and changing over decades.. in the 1980`s / 90`s Rosso Chiaro had a big premium...
As usual, yesterday's truth is not tomorrow's. Pls take a look at this original and untouched 30.000 only original km in Viola metallic over beige. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interior shots : You can see that the central part of the seats is made of cloth. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember when the car was for sale in 2004, I wasn`t brave enough (colour) to buy it, what I clealy regret today... ;-)
05082 was produced Oct. 1972 and is listed in the Dino Register as originally Giallo Fly 20-Y-191 Is the fly yellow below the early or late one? Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's the early Giallo Fly. I should know since it's my Dino (#01712, 1971 Euro 246GT, factory build date March 30, 1971).
Scott, Giallo Fly 20-Y-191 was original to your Dino. Probably one of the very last with the early yellow colour....
I bumped this thread because I got tired of having to search for it in the "wayback machine" search engine. Does anyone have a spare Scaglietti Glidden Salchi paint sample fan for the Dino era that they would be willing to sell?
Take a look at these Maserati (Bora/Merak) paint samples - many of the codes are the same as the paint codes for Dinos - and some of the samples look like they just whited out "Dino" for the color name on the back of the samples. http://www.thecarnut.com/Manuals/Paint/Bora_paint_chips.pdf
