The thing motor manufacturer hate most is retooling. The cost is retooling has blocked or delayed many changes in the auto industry.

I'd agree to a point. You may not know of the Takata Air Bag igniter concern with millions of defective igniters in cars. The explosive used was dangerous, and killed people. I followed the concern and car companies are still doing recalls. As a source of the problem, I believe the explosive charge was changed. The car companies are recalling these cars and replacing the charge. Can you imagine how much this has cost everyone and Takata has gone out of business. Their assets were bought up by Key Safety Systems.

Now imagine a car company doing a couple of million mile testing on an engine using this technology. Go into production, produce a couple of million engines, and then hit a technical snag that forces a recall, and requires an engine change. they have to have a fix for the technical issue which may be expensive, and time consuming to do. Or the company may have to buy these cars back, and probably bankrupt the producer. So, they are very risk adverse. Re-tooling a body or an interior isn't a big deal.

Uhh...except it’s the number two greenhouse gas. Guess what number one is...? “Harmless” water vapor (vapour).

The best part of science is that it happens whether you believe in it (or understand it) or not. CO2 is a huge contributor to climate change...that is a fact.

Since when? The imbeciles here vote for whoever tells the best lies, that’s how we ended up with Brexit, and that’s how that thick scum Corbin almost got himself elected. Look at all those moronic labour MPs that are out there now. The British public should be ashamed of themselves for allowing themselves to be totally fooled by the leave campaign, and any decent political leader would stand up and announce a second referendum based on FACTS before committing the country to ruin.... they all do it for the money, even the ****ing socialists in the UK, don’t ever believe anything else cos it’s bollocks

I’d rather they handed over control to Donald trump, he has more brains and better ideas than any of our own politicians. He’s going to make America great again, all the while they are taking more of the great OUT of Britain

F1 going electric will do nothing to change the course of the stars or our future, except to make the "pinnacle" of motorsports even more boring that it has become. When science becomes political is stops being useful science. The best solution to F1 audience complaints is a return to Formula Libre....no rules, run what you brung...a sort of Canonball Run but on F1 tracks.

At the end of the day, it's a matter of choice.

If F1 goes electric, I will Watch it, and probably you won't.

I follow all sorts of motor racing (apart from NASCAR) , not matter where the power come from.

A modern Formula libre would not be very interesting for very long - It would quickly devolve into hugely expensive, purely technical exercise (full ground effect, automated gearboxes or cvts etc.) and (if not immediately) would quickly dispense with the driver altogether (or he/she would simply be a glorified passenger /systems manager passenger wearing a g-suit.)

Best thing for me would be for F1 to drop any pretensions of relevance and for become a full on 'analog' celebration of speed and visceral pleasure. Being the 'pinnacle' to me doesn't require high tech...just the lightest cars, big power, exquisite jewel-like engineering, and full input by the driver. Minimal aero, minmal electronics...jewel-like v10s, v12s etc. and manual gearboxes. No telemetry. No fly-by-wire. If the cars aren't nearly as fast a some ~fully automated electric or hybrid LMP, then so be it....

Incidentally, for me at least - this has zero to do with celebrating waste, pollution, inefficiency - or spitting in the face progress or innovation...but simply not wanting the core elements - the core pleasures of the sport - ripped away to satisfy the marketing departments of large corporations.

Obviously none of this will happen (at least with people like Jean Todt in charge) but one can dream...

When it’s was CART it was on par with F1. I tried to watch a couple times a year or 2 ago and just couldn’t get into it. The cars are so friggin ugly and sound like sewing machines.
I’ll probably watch again and see if I like it any better this year.

I know very well CO2 is a greenhouse gas. I never disputed that.

Still, CO2 is not noxious. It's not bad for human health, and stating that higher concentrations of it "cause many ailments" is completely false.

The air contains CO2 in small quantity which isn't noxous, you are right.
In fact, plants and trees thrive on CO2.
CO2 is also used in many fire extinguishers, because it deprives of oxygen; that should give you a clue.

Beyond a certain percentage, CO2 is noxious to humans and animals.
Kept uncontrolled, too much CO2 in the air reduces the oxygen level, and bring respiratory problems.
In fact, in extreme percentage, CO2 becomes lethal and kills by apshyxiation!

In many urban environments, the percentage o CO2 in the air is beyond critical percentage, and affecs breathing.
I am not making it up. Any doctor will tell you that.

You can, of course, bury your head in the sand and ignore the problem, but I don't.

Very true. Indy racing lost its shine frst when it split, and then re-unified to beome a specs series.

F1 received some CART drivers, like Mario Andretti, Jacques Villeneuve, Christiano de Matta, Alex Zanardi, Michael Andretti, etc, but we don't see that anymore.

I watch F1 purely because Ferrari race in F1. Ferrari has alway been about engines and whilst I accept an electric motor as a method to propel a motor car I have no interest beyond that. The day Ferrari only sell pure electric cars is the day I hang up my keys.

How can a tifosi switch from F1 to Indycar where there is no Ferrari ?

No different than watching an all electric F1, a full electric Ferrari would not be a Ferrari to me. I will simply find something else to do, already developed many other things to do since F1 went hybrid turbo.

I've always been a fan of driver first team 2nd. If lets say Stroll and Hamilton ended up at Ferrari, I wouldn't support the team or it's drivers. I echo 05011994, if there was an all electric Ferrari (car or racecar), I'd quite simply ignore it. Won't consider it a Ferrari or something suddenly worth watching.

I tried to watch formula E once Only because I'm a big fan of r/c and what the lipo batteries in my stuff are capable of. The torque is insane and have 1/5 cars going close to 80mph. But aside from the lack of sound, when they pulled into the pits and actually switched cars! The channel was changed and I never watched again. As far a F1 goes you cant have the pinnacle of racing go full electric. I think they would drop like a stone just like NASCAR has. I agree with some of the people here that they need to bring back CART. Indy cars suck.
