    Hey guys,

this is getting stupid, but took my car out Friday night to have dinner with IMP designer... fogo de Chao - great dinner, leave had to run past borders to pick up a gift, got the new Paul McCartney CD, pressed power on the radio in the car.... and Nothing!!!

This is the first time I've had a problem with the radio... no power at all????

All I can remember is that I was thinking I had an electrical problem a couple of weeks back... so had the plate with all the ignition electronics out which is under the antenna....so I moved some of those wires... but nothing looks disconnected or broken... what could have gone wrong??? its a new Alpine unit.. and has always worked great!!!

any ideas... is there anything to do with power for the head unit at the antenna???

we were going out of town So I disconnected the battery while we were away using the quick disconnect... Thats all that was done.... what could cause this? checked all fuses etc... they are all ok... checked the inline fuse to the radio and its ok... antenna works as it should... goes up and down...

Do 328s still have the infamous fuse block of the 308? I had a similar problem recently, it turns out that the voltage supply to the radio fuse is jumpered from the spade terminal next to it (which is directly above the fuse for the lights up/down). The jumper had either arced or rattled loose or something, so there was no contact between the jumper and the supply terminal for the fuse. In my instance, I was able to put the spade terminal directly onto the unused male spade that was directly above the radio fuse and get tunes back. Back at home, I just dribbled some solder on the interface between the jumper and a rivet that was the key failure point and all's well.
I hope that made sense, and I hope it helps with your problem.

I would first confirm you do/do not have power to the radio...it is entirely possible the radio died.

Try pushing the head unit in/into the dash.

I know my alpine head unit sometimes gets loose and you have to just give it a gentle push back into the radio holder.

Oftentimes the radio will have its own inline fuse. If you had the plate to the antenna out, it is possible it grounded momentarily and blew the fuse (depending on how the stereo was wired!!!) Actually, it is most likely just a coincidence.

In any event, first look through the fuse box to ensure there are no blown fuses. If not, go behind the stereo to look for a wire with an inline fuse. It might just be dangling below the dash.

If all fuses are good, I'd go with the "a swift hit" technique.

If you have the unit out check for power there, if you have power, then hook up another deck to see if it works, then you will know it is the head unit or not.

I would disconnect the inline fuse behind the radio and check the voltage there.
If you don't have a voltmeter , run a separate 12v wire directly to the radio and see if that works.

The Problem was actually just like the 1st post... the power was taken from the ignition fuse, and it had come loose... just took some probing around to notice it.... also dont use your finger to touch any of the bare wires when the ignition is on... wow! its a shocking experience!

now it plays just like before!

    Thanks for the help!

    Cheers!
