Hi Timothy, It looks to me like RM is more realistic (Lower) on their estimates than the other houses. Would you agree? Seems like a very high estimate on that Vetroresina.
1961 Ferrari 250 GTE Series I 2919 Motostalgia Amelia Island 9/10/2018 $500,000-$625,000 €406.200-€507.750 1965 Ferrari 330 2+2 Series I 6813 Motostalgia Amelia Island 9/10/2018 $275,000-$355,000 €223.400-€288.400
The Vetroresina has just had a $200k restoration so that must have factored heavily. I still think there is value at that level. It is rare, the first of a model in production til the late 1980s and a very pure design
I didn't realize that there were now three auctions at Amelia. I'm going if anyone wants to meet up. And I agree with sixcarbs that RM has the most realistic estimates. Matt
I was basing my value comment on this result you posted from RM Paris. "1976 Ferrari 308GTB Vetoresina 19751 RM Paris 7/02/2018 111 €150,000 €175,000 N/R € 132,250 $162,310 -12%" The car above is not the original color, even though a lot of people don't care. Having said that, sometimes you can spend more on it than it is worth. Looking forward to your report.
I can't imagine why they would accept the estimate unless the consignor has (very) high dollar car in the sale.
The sound track seems a bit muted..much better in real life! These are heading towards Dino territory.
Hollywood Wheels and Motostalgia both offer auctions at Amelia Island but I only cover the big auction houses (Artcurial, Bonhams, Gooding & co., RM Sotheby's and Worldwide Auctions). Unfortunately many smaller and second tier firms neither offer results within a timely manner nor have the professionalism of the aforementioned. Doesn't mean they don't offer Ferrari nor anything other than a reason why I don't bother to offer coverage of them, hence my comment "offered at the three major auctions". I would be very happy for you to post any picture or feedback from any of the sales, the concours or anything relevant. Hope you have a fantastic trip.
Just a thought but that car was not afforded the care that Goodings example has been. I think the collector that wants the very best may regard the goodings example expensive but worth it. The craziest car is the 250GT at RM that is estimated at $600 - 750k, that has just received a $600k restoration by Motion Products, again it may appeal to a perfectionist, otherwise its just flippin expensive.
Wow, I just looked at that 250 GT. That car is gorgeous! Looks brand new. Says $958,000 spent on it. Crazy! What's going to happen if the stock market collapses and all of these collectibles are next? What was that car worth 10 years ago?
Your average 250GT is worth perhaps half that (roughly) and will drop if the Ferrari market tanks. What you do with the money if not cars is another question.
The 1990s has the answer. There will be a lot of fully restored cars for sale at prices that are less than the cost of the restoration alone. Matt
Why? RM moved the auction one day earlier....from March 10 to March 9.....what if you booked a room and ticket? Perhaps not the best idea in such a short notice... The Amelia Island auction has been moved to Friday, March 9, beginning at 3:00 PM EDT. The Amelia Island Concours will take place Saturday, March 10. Preview will remain open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on March 9. Ciao Oscar
Keep the customers safe, first and foremost I guess. RM Sotheby's will ensure their big dollar clients are very well looked after but how many legit big dollar bidders are in the tent rather than on the phones or internet bidding?
High bid does not mean that there was an actual bid Read the terms: Auctioneer May place bids on behalf of the seller up to the reserve, including several consecutive bids!!!
Was listed elsewhere as sold but maybe, just maybe it was an unqualified bidder (with no $2.4 million ready to go) or a shill bidding and then ended up "holding the baby" so to speak. Either way very strange. Gooding this morning has been a bit of a washout, Porsche RSR Turbo and Ferrari's 410SA and 212 all failing to sell
FWIW, a friend of mine bid on the Daytona Spider, so there was at least some real bidding on the car.
