The police aren't supposed to do it for you unless the person did something to you and they need the info for their investigation/report but sometimes if you catch one in a good mood at the local station they will do it for you. Not that I have ever done that or anything.

Your attorney may have some connections that could get it for you also so you could talk to him too.

You can thank a wacko stalker for the fact that license plate records are no longer publicly accessable. After a wacko stalker killed actress Rebecca Schaefer in LA a few years ago, congress passed the Drivers Safety Act or something like that. It made license plate records and driver's license info restricted to law enforcement and licensed private detectives. I used to go down to the local DMV all the time and run Corvette plate numbers to track down the cars and try to make a deal. I made one deal and bought my '66 Corvette at a bargain price. I tracked another '66 Corvette from a serial number that I found stamped on a 4 speed transmission case. Unfortunately, Farmer Brown's son had sold the car a few years before. The times used to be better.

In NC and in many other places Lisence iinfo is public record. They do make it harder for you by requiring you go to the DMV to run the plate. No way to do it on line with out being a cop. Where do you live?

I don't think that any state will give up the info these days:
