Nah, the original S class is still holding it's value pretty well.

I somewhat agree but I think the new S is ugly. (Just my opinion.) Frankly, I bought an 06 S430 a few months ago at a great price, way below MSRP. The price plummeted before the new model even came out. Bottom line is that I don't even like the 06 and plan to get rid of it in a few months, need to keep it at least one year. The car just isn't fun to drive. Maybe I will finally go over to the BMW M class.

 

Is your car a 4matic? My dad has been thinking about going up from his 02 e320 to an S. Why I have no idea since they never drive their MB's. His 02 has 15k on it and they use it to drive to FL every year from MN. My moms 03 CLK500 Saks edition only has 4k on it. Such a shame. My neighbor down the street is the MB wrench turner and he is going to show me how to put the car in dyno mode that shuts off every driver aid 100% and puts it to full power.

 

Yep, the car has the 4matic. It's just me but I want to have a little more fun driving to the office since the 355 just isn't the daily driver. The MB is nice and comfortable but boring.

 

Not a fan of the new S. Looks like they're taking cues from the CLS which I hate. It's the curve over the top thing that I just can't stand.

 

I have the new S550. Although I must agree that it's far from being pretty, the thing is just unbelievable. The technology in that car is really insane and the comfort is perfect.

My A8, 7series, and even the Bentley didn't move much since that thing arrived. It is a wonderful machine to the point that I am changing it for an S600 arriving in June.

I drove the S550 and I didn't like it as much as the A8. I'd really like to understand your preference for the S. I've always been a MB guy, but the S550 didn't feel like anything diff to me. The Audi seemed quicker handled real well w/ awd. and the systems controls were quicker to access. I'm leaning towards a W12. What are your thoughts?

 

THe new S has fenders off of a Ford Focus. No thank you.

 

Lol. That bothered me too. The dark colors help, though.

That said I like the E-class more, and my Benz dealer has always done right by me - even if the cars aren't always screwed together as well as they could be.

 

Personally I still like the W140...S-classes around the mid-90's. Built like a tank, dual paned windows, HUGE interior, etc, etc. Not a big fan of the recent and newer models.

Nothing comes close to the comfort of the new S Class. Although I admit that the A8 is more "driver oriented" than the S Class, I still find great joy in driving it.
Talking about the system however, the new S Class is a dream. I got used to it faster than I did with either the i-Drive or the Audi system. It's really VERY simple. And the seat massage is just unbelievable. It scares me sometimes because it is so good I am afraid one day I'd sleep at the wheel.

Bottom line, the S Class is not the best "driver" car out there. In its class I would get an A8 (and I already did). But the S Class is doing its job quite well, which is taking you from point A to point B in the most comfortable way possible.

 

The Mercedes dealers still haven't figured out how to service all of the systems on the past S class , this one is gonna be another nightmare. Every time a warning light comes on its going to be a 2 week ordeal to get an appointment and repair the car. 3 days later another light will come on and its time for the whole party to start over.

IMHO W140 is still the King. Especially A Brabus one.
My father in-law still keeps a W140 S600 all black similar to the pics below, with less than 50kmiles.
I still love it whenever I walk pass the car in his garage.
