Kudos to these girls. Any other time I would think this is a joke but men this age were avaerge flying the bombers in WWII so I am told. God I feel old..................................... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bless 'em All!! Bless every little hair on their heads! And .......they're all officers to boot! I'm truly impressed.
I flew with a B-24 pilot who had more than a full combat tour in Europe under his belt. He was 22 yers old and an old man. A little less than two years of training and a little more than two years in action. Before climbing into the airplane he would go back to the tail and throw up. After that, everything was fine. I was 18 at the time and looked at him as a god.
Sounds like I'm trying to be-little those lovely little ladies but I'm not. Greatest thing ever to see something that special. Only in America !!!
I agree with you that it is a really great thing - though I hope in another generation and it won't be so uncommon as to even raise notice. That would be a new era in aviation. Happy New Year.
We allow twenty somethings, to pilot our war planes, fighters and bombers, ... Loaded with thousands of pounds of destruction..with a few hundred hours behind the stick ( re: all female crew) Yet to ferry passengers from point "A" to "B"...via a national airline.......it takes........ How Many Thousand hours ? ? ? Hmmmmmmmm.
There are a few female pilots, navs and loadmasters around here. Haven't seen any flight engineers yet. Most of us are mid 20s.....
Mark PDX, I visit my daughter in Troutdale quite often. Is there a chance of visiting you and you airplane there at PDX ?
I'm in training until March, then back to Dyess AFB in TX. Dunno when I might be flying up to the NW on the 130....
Of course, Art. My point... wasn't, one of cargo value.... It was...... one of perceived responsibility. Here we have low air time people, with the power to wipe out an entire city with a single mistake... " Hey, Duh...I mean like, Um, I should'nt have like, pushed "THAT" , like, Uh...button...? Like, should I!! " .... VS.... "thousands of hours required" pilots, before they are considered "qualified" to ferry cattle.... Just makes ya go Hmmmm...... All due respect to the flight crews. (Just "LIKE" joking here, "LIKE" with the "LIKE" "20 something" vernacular....) .
I dunno...I would hate to be anywhere near that aircarft when "that time of the month" rolls around..

She had several copies of the Life Magazine article about her class, in which she featured prominantly. She had quite a few hours logged in military stuff. She and her husband ran an FBO in Kansas for several years after the war. The song could be "How ya gonna keep em down on the ground....." Both groups represent quite an accomplishment regardless of plumbing. There is a lot of good stuff about the WASPs if you dig around a bit in search engines.
Relax pal..it was a joke. Grow up a bit and stop playing the hero game. Do you really think they need you to stick up for them? God at least one other person got the joke..lighten up.
I tip my hat to those little ladies who have not only entered the male domain but have done it in a way that one must admire. They have proven to those who applied the most strigent standards that they can do as well or better than some of their male counterparts. I just wish them Godspeed and a long safe life for they are truly special young ladies. They are Americans and, thank the Lord, they are not forced to wear the burkah or head scarfs and bedsheets and to walk 5 paces behind the men. I'm proud to know that they are in the service and doing a good job to defend our country. God bless them.
If the flightdeck is called a cockpit when men are flying what is it called when women are flying? Box office!
