The Alliance Airshow will be Oct 30 and 31. Should be a good show as usual. The couple who my son stayed with at Port Isabel, Texas this summer while touring with American Wind Symphony will be in attendance we are told. What is neat about that is that he was a test pilot for the SR 71, was base commander at Area 51 and spent his final years before retirement at the Pentagon.

We are supposed to be getting together to meet them and have dinner. I am really looking forward to this deal. J.J. says that he really has some interesting stories but is very restricted about what he can say about Area 51.

Alliance is a great show. If short on attention span don't go until 12-1. Many go early in the day missing the best stuff which runs from 2-3 pm to close.

James, my wife and I just returned from a week in Carlsbad, CA where we attended a similar show at MCAS Miramar. This was my first time to see the Raptor and Osprey fly. The Raptor is very impressive; it can turn inside of a phone booth. Also there were: Sean Tucker, Chuck Aaron doing loops and rolls in the Red Bull helicopter, and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. It was a totally awesome day; we may come to Alliance to get another taste.

You will love it. And if you decide not to drive in you can park on a hill on the side of I-35 overlooking the airport and The Blue Angels come in right over your head...........But you will miss all the static displays if you do not go in........Come on down,,,,,and bring friends.

I have thought a few times about getting a FChat table. It does get crowded and nice to have your own service and seats.

I will probably go on Sunday.

I'll be headed there with some friends from Denmark. They specifically booked their trip around this event. Even my 3 yr old is excited to go back and see "big jet" again.

Has anyone ever booked the reserved seats? I usually just take camping chairs and it's fine, but with a larger group, might make sense to secure some seats.

Did you decide to get a table? I'll split it with you if you want to do something Sunday. I only need 2 seats myself, but am willing to " donate " the others for F-Chat brothers ( and sisters )

If I'm going to be there all day, I think covered seating would be a plus...

You wont see an F117. Four original prototypes are on display around the US with the rest of the airframes stored gathering dust in hangers at the tonopah test range.

I will have to play it by ear this year. I will try to go Sunday, sometime after lunch and then stay through the end. For only a half day I walk around enough that wouldn't take advantage of the table. Maybe next year.

Can't believe FiFi is there! Glad its back in the air.

FiFi is actually owned by a Ferrari Owner in Midland. At one time he had three Ferraris. You should see his hangars. One is full of cars, another full of WWII aircraft. He has a rather large ranch outside of town there. At least I think he still owns it. He did when I left Odessa in 1996. Maybe not in his name only but his groups.

I got to take a short flight in it about five years or so ago when he had it at the Midland/Odessa show. Very loud and rumbling.........

WOW I haven't seen FiFi in 20 years!!!

I used to love going to airshows with my folks growing up.

I'll have to make a point to get our family out for the next one!!

    Very Cool!!

You need to try to make this one next year out in Midland/Odessa. It is the most awesome airshow you have ever seen. It is the home of the Commemorative Air Force (Formerly known as the Confederate Air Force). More vintage aircraft than you can even realize are still flying. The put on an aerial reenactment of WWII with pyrotechnics, dogfights and all. B17, B24, B25, P51, P38, Spitfires, Zeros, Stukas and just tons and tons more. It is well worth the visit and then you can jump on over to the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum and see the Jim Hall Chaparral exhibit.\

I will put up some photos...........But the file is large. I just cannot stop myself when it comes to the Commemorative (Confederate) Air Force Show in Midland. Scheduled for Oct 8&9 2011. Make your plans now. It is worth the trip.....

Some shots I borrowed but all are CAF planes and pilots. Some shots are mine. You can probably tell the difference between the really good shots and mine.........

And do not forget to visit the Jim Hall Chaparral exhibit at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum about 3 miles from the airport.
http://www.petroleummuseum.org/Gallery/CarsonDisplay.html Click on the link and read about the different Chaparrals. Amazing. And then plan your trip to Midland next October. How about a road trip?? Or a fly-in?
