They won't come close to winning anything for the next several years. This is the most important period in developing the baseline car for the next regs and they're barely treading water.

That would be my guess as well. Who knows though - sometimes a few people can make an amazing difference.

The problem is that these teams are so large now, that they are like small corporations. Changing the culture and organization of 50 people is one thing; doing it for 800-1000 is a lot different.

Ferrari have promoted David Sanchez as chief of aerodynamics. He's been with the team since 2012, coming from Mclaren where he was chief of Aero as well.

Good move or bad? I did some research, he worked on the 2005-06 Renault (= title winners), then went to Mclaren in 2007 til end 2011 as chief of aero. All those years where decent cars aero wise as far as I can remember. 2009 Sure didn't start of well (the teams ahead all had the double diffuser, but Mclaren where ''best of'' no double diffuser), but their mid season upgrades made the car incredibly strong.

It's not a Newey, but better than nothing.

Again if the team are creating a real package that is 'synched' together, power and aero he could be the genius we need lol! :) We can hope. For me they are too focused on the engine or have been. What do I know, but what we read and then see on the track.

Yes. That's good. Even though Alison is gone, though that is a very large talent loss, it's simply a symptom of the core problem. Ferrari have returned to their caustic self cannibalizing culture. They have the talent and the resources to win. They simply squander them with their inability to manage. Sad. Sickening in fact. Ridiculous that they have returned to this. The sweater should be treated like they did Musolini.

    Hahaha

You mean let him dictate for 23 years, and then execute him??

How many years do we still have to wait?

Lol. I simply meant the execution part. He's already done the damage to justify it.

Give Seb and Kimi a couple bats and a wood chipper, everyone would enjoy. Wasting their talents. Probably toss cigarette boy in the pile too.

But they keep it in the tradition of Enzo: Aerodynamics is only for those not able to built a proper engine ;)

I haven't followed this too closely since the summer break, but I myself am a widower 4 years out. It is not easy and my wife and I couldn't have kids. I would say it was a big personal (personnel) blow and the car was doing well at the start of the year. I don't think all is lost but it sure isn't going to be easy now that he is gone. Anyone know what the recent upgrades were?

    Sorry to hear.

We received some engine upgrades (stand alone from Allison's department). Last upgrade was some 5-6 races ago, some aero and rear suspension. Short nose etc was planned but doubt it's coming.

Last 3 engine tokens will be spend for either Spa or Monza. Only minor aero updates here and there, nothing significant.

    The engineers love it !!

Beside, we are stuck with that formula until 2020 at the earliest, and maybe 2022.

    Thanks Bas,

Hopefully some of that Benetton magic will rub off on the Scuderia, especially at Monza. I can see the engine tokens being used there.

Toto in the press this weekend stating he thinks Ferrari's change in pace is due to them focusing on the new car for next year.

Yep. He's making himself look stupid. Ferrari are far behind the rest in terms of 2017. No lead designer.

Unless, by magic and they purposely delayed the Allison news (rumours circulated well before official news) and Ferrari very quietly started work on it...But still, no ''big name'' designer onboard.

I agree with you. Illusion of competitiveness.

Does anyone take Toto seriously anymore? He's probably just upset he can't talk about how Ferrari is a "serious threat" at the next race without the people interviewing him cracking up
