NASCAR didn't kill the goose that laid the golden egg, shifts in culture and the government did: http://www.nascar.com/2010/news/features/07/21/inside.nascar.winston.era/index.html

It was my understanding that he purposely (whether or not wisely) didn't return to IndyCar b/c he wanted to keep his focus (and that of others) on him getting his NASCAR act together.

    Maybe Sam spiked AJ's kool-aide! :D

Ryan Newman perhaps? Either he returns to Penske or Shell goes to Stewart-Haas?

    http://www.nascar.com/news/120725/tstewart-indianapolis-future/index.html

Shell could certainly do much worse than a clean-cut Midwest college educated kid recently released from the military. Just ask (or maybe not) Juan Pablo. ;) :D

well he's been in NASCAR for 5 years with what, 1 nationwide win?

whereas if he stayed with a top team in Indycar (which he would have) he could have had easily a dozen or more wins, 1 or more Indy 500 wins, and a few championships.

    I don't get it.

at any rate I think Newman is staying at Stewart, what about Logano? I think Kenseth is taking his ride. although if Hornish doesn't get the 22 ride for all his loyalty and improvement of late I'll be disappointed.

Ashley was probably like, "WTF is keeping you in NASCAR Dario? I want to win! I want to wear floppy hats and dance in front of the camera. I'm tired of being confused with a Bud girl. Do I have to call Chip?" :D

If Whisky is right that Shell left Harvick b/c they didn't think he/RCR could win the title I don't see how Shell could get comfortable with Logano.

On Speed's Wind Tunnel last week they were discussing the crew chief change on the 99 team. One of them mentioned that there is a rumor that Cousin Carl's contract is actually with Ford and that they can pull him from Roush.

So...Penske switches to Ford next year...maybe Carl comes with the move? That should help keep Shell calm.

btw I know Marcos Ambrose's contract is with Ford but not sure on Carl Edwards. but as we've seen with Kenseth and Mark Martin, once Roush is done with you, adios.

and for the record I don't think the Shell/Harvick deal was over the chase/championship; honor's in the dolla yo.

Geez, I always forget about Jayski; probably b/c they sold out to da man, err ESPN! I want my rumor mill to be pure. :D

The negotiations went something like this...

Ford: Mr Edwards, here is our standard motorsports personal services contract. You will note we red-lined Mr. Ambrose's name and added two zeroes to the end of the annual compensation package.

Carl: My car number is 99. I want the zeros to be nines. Nine is bigger than zero.

    Ford: Done.

    Carl: Cool, let'***** Subway.

    :D

That's your battle with Whisky; I ain't in it. :D

    well let's see....

RCR is historically one of the pricier teams to sponsor

Penske has nowhere near the level of success of RCR/Harvick since the Chase started (and what success they had was with drivers no longer with the team)

Penske already had a connection with Shell through their Indycar team

Penske also builds truck engines, sells cars, rents trucks, etc etc....tons of business cross-promotional opportunities.

    shall I go on? :)

and I had no idea jayski sold to ESPN. good for him. goofy fan from sticks of PA becomes an insider and capitalizes on other people's knowledge. well done sir.

It has now been reported that AJ tested positive for Amphetamines.

    from jayski....

Amphetamines caused Allmendinger's positive test: Suspended Sprint Cup driver AJ Allmendinger tested positive for amphetamines, his business manager confirmed Wednesday. Tara Ragan, the vice president of Walldinger Racing Inc., said Allmendinger was told when initially suspended by NASCAR on July 7 that amphetamines were found in his drug testing sample taken a week earlier. She said the term was so broad that she opted to refer to it as a stimulant. Brand names of medications that contain or metabolize into amphetamines include Adderall, Dexedrine, Dextrostat, Desoxyn, Didrex, ProCentra and Vyvanse. Amphetamines also are used recreationally as a performance enhancer, often referred to on the street as "speed." When overused, they can be psychologically and physically addictive. "With amphetamines, there are a whole slew of things it can be," Ragan told ESPN.com. "When we say we don't know what it is, what we were trying to ascertain is what is it in that grouping? In our head, we don't know. In fact, when the (medical review officer) first called and said he tested positive for amphetamines, the first thing we said was, 'What does that mean?'" Ragan said the hope is Dr. David Black, who runs Aegis Sciences Corporation in Nashville, Tenn., which tested Allmendinger's "A" and "B" urine samples, will help clarify that Thursday when Allmendinger talks to him to be assigned a health care facility for assessment. Meanwhile, Ragan said there are plans to have Allmendinger tested again by an independent laboratory to see whether amphetamines still show up in his system. "We weren't being evasive," Ragan said. "In my head, no, we didn't know what the drug was. Amphetamines was too general for us when trying to figure out what it is."(more at ESPN.com)(7-25-2012)

I'd love to see Hornish get the ride but I'm not holding my breath.

Rocket Ryan would be nice to see back there, he's the modern version of Mark Donahue in a lot of ways.

I think the big question from this silly season is does Logano land another decent ride or become another NASCAR flameout like Casey Atwood.

Gibbs wants to keep Joey racing, Home Depot wants a car in the chase/championship. If Joey doesn't make the chase, they will be seriously on the hunt for a new sponsor. As its not solid at this point that he can make it, they probably are checking with any contact they can find.

M&M's moving from Kyle, to Joey wouldn't surprise me.

    your link doesn't work....

I just find it hard to believe he only took adderall ONCE and just happened out of sheer coincidence, bad luck, or karma to have been randomly drug tested that weekend.
