Amazingly in the little town I currently live in a local gentleman drives a Maybach. he would throw off my home/car ratio too much however. His car collection is probably $30M (my estimate after spending an hour driving through his garage), while his house is probably only $3M.

I love Porsches. I can't think of any other car that you can thrash around on a track day after day, drive it home, and then comfortably drive it to work the next week. Go to a PCA driver's ed event and look how many 20+ year old cars are out on the track with 150K miles on the odometer. While the 996 and Boxster/Boxster S have become common place in places like LA and Dallas (where I live), I can't fault a company for making a car so well that it became popular. These newer models are blast to drive, try one if you haven't yet. If you feel a need to be different and want stand out, perhaps a newer Porsche won't do it for you. I admit this played a part in my decision to sell my Boxster S and buy a 355, but I only did so knowing I had two other Porsches still in the garage.

If you love driving, Porsches are tough to beat.

Now I know where to go for vacation! :D

I agree, as does my father, that Carreras aren't like Carreras. They are... well, bland. First comes the styling. Then comes the driving... it's just, well, normal. My dad drives a 360 first because he loves Ferrari and he loves the car, of course, but second because it's a hoot to drive. It's not normal. A 996 is like a much faster Civic... it's the same, just faster.
