I was way too close to losing my F355 Friday night. I backed it out of the garage and shut it off so I could close the garage and grab my wallet/phone. I heard the sound of liquid pouring into the ground and initially thought I had a cooling system leak. Then I thought maybe it's a dry leaf rusting in the breeze, nope definitely liquid.......I immediately popped the hood and shut off the battery just as a precaution.

Had I driven off it would have surely caught fire. I carry an extinguisher but the amount of fuel leaking would have likely been too much to handle.

I am replacing all of the factory lines with new -6 AN style connections to aid in future replacements.

I've lost a car that I loved to fire before (garage fire) and I don't think I could handle it again, especially with this one. I was extremely lucky!

This is what killed Hoovies Spider I believe. The line from the filter to the junction block was the culprit. It was completely saturated when I grabbed it. There are no signs of damage so I believe the liner deteriorated.

    Scary stuff.

Wow, so happy you shut it off and heard the liquid pouring out ;)
    That is just scary.
You dodged a bullet on that one.

Yes did that a long time ago but ithought this was the actual fuel line from the filter that failed.

    Grant,
I would still contact the dealership. I had ALL the lines on my car replaced under the program. The service director is a buddy of mine so maybe I had a little extra done.;) It is definitely worth a try.
    Cheers,
    Marc

Also maybe let us know which line, from the filter, the supply or the return to tank

Gents. Where are you mounting your extinguishers? My experience is women find the 'under the passenger's knees' location annoying. Thanks.

Just have her hold the extinguisher. There really aren't too many places other than the knee or on the floor of the passenger footwell.

After re reading my recall letter I thinkI understand what your saying.

The first recall that was done was in March 98 on the fuel supply lines, #158

The second rcall is the divider block.

Mine being a late 99 model had the new lines put on at the factory.

    I think that covers it.

    Thanks Marc

    Glad nothing happened, Rob.

PS - Just noticed - where is the black pin stripe on your car? Did you paint the car?

I mentioned in my original post that it was the pressure line from the filter to the distribution block. There were/are no signs of chafing, rubbing, abrading, kinking on the braided lines. The inner liner itself is compromised.

Dave, yes it's been painted. The previous owner paid $16,800 for a full repaint and interior repairs (likely stickies as they are perfect).

Thanks guys, I am still in a bit of shock.

    Man that was lucky!

I'll bet you that it also has something to do with the amount of ethanol in the fuel these days. I won't surprise me if the old lining was Buna rubber.

Rob - FYI, the black stripe is vinyl tape. Ferrari has a P/N for it and it is easy to apply.

So Rob if I am to understand correctly your lines are braided steel and that filter pressure line to the block failed.

Wow, how the hell does a guy check that!!

Agreed. Short of pulling the lines and pressure testing I don't see how you'd pick up this impending failure.

My fuel lines are currently off and with Dave Helms getting rebuilt so hopefully I never experience this issue on my 355. After seeing his work on the oil hoses I thought I'd have the fuel lines done as well.

The SRI website definitely needs to be updated. As Xenu recommends, just give the Professor a call and he can discuss it with you. I think you may find something about the hoses on their Facebook page
