Greetings to all! Over the past year or so I have been accumulating the bits to activate the Nav on my OE Becker radio on the 2007 599. I purchased and installed the antenna and accompanying cable (natch), found a "USA" CF card at online auction which I purchased, and at my most recent service the dealer refreshed my deck with the v4.0 system disc, so the system software version now matches the version (4.0) of the CF card.

All good, right? I no longer get the "see your Ferrari dealer" or "please install navigation software" when I fire up the Nav -- I get into the various Nav menus, show that I am pulling in multiple satellite signals, etc.

Here's the hitch -- the only locations that I am able to pull up are 1) the entire island of Puerto Rico, 2) a town in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, and 3) listings for Heyward and Fremont California, which in turn lead me back to Puerto Rico. This would be fine, but I don't live in Puerto Rico! I've played around with various menus, holding down the 3 buttons at the corners of the radio and trying various things, etc., but no luck. I was able to store my home location while parked in front of my house, but don't know that I can even get directions from another location back home (haven't tried yet).

Can anyone help with this? Is there some relatively simple fix, or am I doomed? The CF card does read "US," not "Puerto Rico." I also checked out the properties of the CF card on my computer, and it looks as if the data file is about 17MB (IIRC -- I'm traveling at the moment).

Would be very deeply helpful for any help!

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Dear Sir,

We at Ferrari have made every effort to make the navigation system in your Ferrari as useless as possible. We do this so your can spend more time driving your Ferrari, abet in circles. We hope you appreciate our efforts.

    Thank you.

Sorry, I don't have anything to offer. I just really enjoyed reading your post.

Buy a TOM TOM stick it to the windsheild and be done with it. It will work better then the Ferrari unit by a country mile..It will actually take you where you want to go. Why are you wasting money and time?? Hell just use your Iphone if you have one. If GPS is that important to you, there are other options that have been on the market for years.

My BMW has NAV...But its stinks. I use my stick on Megellin, and it never fails me.

Switched the distance measurement over from metric to imperial, and suddenly I can "see" street addresses in the US and use them to program the Nav. Still no luck with Points of Interest, but I can use street addresses instead.

As for "why bother," I have a thing for correctness (former concours fanatic) and don't want to stick an ugly piece of crap to my windshield with a suction cup...

Aftermarket GPS usually has superior performance, features and functionality than OEM at a fraction of the price, but they are usually hideously ugly. OK on a Ford, not such a good look on a Ferrari.

So it IS all about the looks...I thought it was about history, the driving experience, what Enzo intended...so much for that I guess. You would rather be lost then have a WORKING gps stuck on your windshield, which you can remove and toss in the trunk.

Personaly, when I see a GPS stuck to thw windshield of a Ferrari, I think it looks cool, cause it shows the person drives his car.

...I'd rather have a correct car, and think it is fun to have functioning Nav as part of the package! Completely agree with you about driving F-Cars -- my guess is that over the past 20 years I have put more track miles on my 5 different Ferraris than most people have put total miles...

Whenever we wish, we can always just use our iPhones to get 100 percent reliable directions -- I just happen to like the idea of having/using the integrated Ferrari-supplied Nav. If at some point you see me at the side of the road with a paper map and sundial, please feel free to stop and have a laugh at my expense! Until then, live and let live?

I don't see why refining features of the car and perfecting it can possibly be a negative, or have any bearing on whether the car is driven. I can totally see the challenge and satisfaction in getting this to work. Nice job!

I think you get the spirit in which I started out on this attempt, and I appreciate the kind words!

Are you in the conn ny area at my friends shop we just had a nav
Problem on anouther 599 sounds like junk to me
It's been a while since I've been In a 599 if the nav doesn't control
The climate I would push a after market does all system that intergrates
Nav, radio, iPhone, hands free, DVD, and it will look very clean.
But if you want a crappy Ferrari branded one because your OCD then
Drop the money and have the dealer diag the car. Then purchase the part
And have it work for a few months or years untill you have to buy anouther
    Then do it over again.
I can see the Concours judge now inspecting your
Radio and triing to punch in his home address while sinking his vintage phone
To your Bluetooth what a silly future
