So who will win in each respective classes??? Post your predictions here. My Predictions: P1- Marco Werner/Lucus Luhr (Audi NA) Audi R10 TDI Diesel P2- Bryan Herta/Christian Fittipaldi (Acura XM) Acura ARX-01B GT1- Johnny O'Connell/Jan Magnussen (Corvette Racing) Corvette C6R GT2- Dominik Farnbacher/Dirk Mueller (Tafel Racing) Ferrari F430 GT
The P2 cars really excel at Long Beach with their tendency to be quite a bit more nimble than the P1 cars (the Audis have an especially hard time here). Looking for a Porsche overall win followed by Acura. Anyone else going? I live just blocks away from the track and will be in the Seaside Suites hospitality area all three days.
Yeah, Herta pulls ahead in the Test session!!!! My favorite driver in the ALMS, cause he also lives here in Valencia, Ca!!! http://www.americanlemans.com/News/Article.aspx?ID=4149 GO AGR!!!!
Practice just concluded - very good to see Fernandez Racing on top in P2. Audi #2 finished 3rd overall, 1st P1. GT2 not the way I want it to go - Jaime was third. Good to see the Lizards up there. I wonder if ALMS will make changes on the Porsches as the FIA is doing?. . . that would make things more interesting if they did. A 1 hour 40 minute ALMS race is dumb. . . Carol Race prediction - Overall will most likely go to Penske which means P2; GT1 a toss up on the Vettes; LMP1 - without a doubt Lucas/Marco; GT2 Risi #62 or Lizards #45. Alot will be dependent on the GT2 backmarkers and cautions.
I will be there for the ALMS exhibition race. I suppose they keep it brief due to the type of crowd attending this event. They probably wouldn't be interested in a 4 hour race.
Hi Ron - hope you are doing well. It's tape delayed - April 20th at 9:30 am PDT on ABC. You can follow it live on live timing and Radio LeMans on www.imsaracing.net Qualifying in a little while. Most races are 2 hr 45 minutes - much prefer racing on real circuits for that time or more like Petit, Laguna Seca, Road America, Sebring, etc. Carol
It will be interesting to see if any weight adjustments for Porsche will occur in ALMS as it has in FIA-GT. Carol
This is a bit off-topic, but may be interesting to some. After St. Pete where a few P1 and P2 cars were turning laps quicker than the IRL machines, I was curious how the ALMS cars would stack up against the Champ cars at Long Beach. The Champ cars are quite a bit quicker. Justin Wilson qualified in 1:06.9 vs. 1:11.3 for the pole-winning Penske Porsche. The ALMS cars make big downforce and cornering speed, so I'm guessing the Champ cars are quicker overall due to superior straightline speed.
Damn good prediction you made there. I'd go play the lottery or bet on same games in a hurry if I were you
Race predictions were made using facts about the performance of several teams. Lottery is pure chance! The Ford GT had no way of winning, unless all other cars broke. That would be a lottery!
GT1 is such a joke. When only 3 cars are entered its not too tuff to get a podium. And they act like they had a race. Its a real joke.
What was the third car? I only saw two yellow Chevy's that need engines twice the size of competitors to win.
The aston was there with the new car, but it broke. GT1 is a joke. And Corvette acted like they won something.
I think that you are confusing the Drayson Vantage GT2 with the DBR9, I was there Saturday, and Bell Racing, was not even in the paddock. BTW the guys at Drayson, are awesome.
I was there this weekend and I have to say that it was a great show. I still "dream" of F1 coming back there. The Champ cars are extremely quick and looked much faster than the prototypes. I was actually surprised the audi/porsche/acura times were so close to the champ cars. In their respective races, the prototypes were significantly slower--that may be due to all the traffic from the other classes.
The aston martin was the GT2 Vantage--it is an absolutely stunning car; it doesn't seem to be developed enough to compete with the porsches and ferraris yet. The GT1 aston martin is the DBR--it was not at Long Beach as it's broken from the St. Pete race. I agree that GT1 is a joke right now. I'd love to see the Ford GT40R and Vipers in GT1 instead of GT2. Although the corvettes had no competition, I have to say that they are ridiculously fast. Coming off the hairpin onto the front straight, the prototypes really take a while to catch them.
the Ford and Viper can't compete in GT2 now - the Corvettes would make them look like they were standing still in GT1. At Silverstone Sunday, the Jet Alliance DBR9 beat the MC12. That's one fast Aston team anyway, they were very good last year too. Hopefully we will see two DBR9's at Petit. Carol
