Great pics. Looks like it was a lot of fun! I want to see those RS Spyders at LeMans sometime soon. They're doing pretty well, aren't they? I don't want to spoil anything about today's race, but they won overall the last 4 of 6 races in ALMS, correct?
November, 2006 article: Le Mans isn't Penske's call http://www.americanlemans.com/news/Article.aspx?ID=2716 The P2 class is desiged for PRIVATEERS anyway. "The LM P2 and GT2 categories are reserved mainly for private teams and must have performances inferior to those in LM P1 and LM GT1." http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/actu/2006-10-19_NC_1201_gb.html There were 5 cars in LMP1 at Mid-Ohio: Cytosport's Lola B06/10 AER (first ALMS race for that team), two Creation CA06/H Judds, and two Audi R10s. The RS Spyder is not cheap. From the May, 2007 issue of 911 & Porsche World: The new RS Spyder costs 1,250,000 Euros, (£850,340), or around $1.7 million. Isn't Penske a private team? It's not a factory-run team is it? Dyson Racing bought a couple RS Spyders so they're privateers as well unless I'm not understanding the rules correctly. Doesn't the RS Spyder meet the "must have performances inferior to those in LM P1 and LM GT1" rule? It applies to both LM 24 Hours and ALMS. They won't allows an LMP2 car beat an LMP1 car at the 24 Hours?
They are a factory supported team. The Prodrive Aston Martin Racing team is a privateer team. 2004 Laguna Seca race won by a Zytek 04S http://www.imsaracing.net/2003/events/lagunaseca05/ALMS_OfficialRace.pdf "In addition, a gap of 1.5% between the best LM P1 and LM P2 laps times must be respected. If the gap is under this figure the A.C.O will take steps to re-establish it at the end of the year." http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans/actu/2006-10-19_NC_1201_gb.html - Nothing new - FIA Sportscar Championship: Spa 2000 http://wsrp.ic.cz/fiascc.html In a monsoon, Filippo Francioni drove the wheels off his SR2 Lights machine from Lucchini with an Alfa Romeo V-6, beating a number of high standard SR1 entries, JMB Racing and BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 333 SPs, Kremer's Lola Ford, DAMS Cadillacs, a Panoz Roadster S, and other SRL cars. Since the RS Spyder has won more races (overall winner) than the R10, their performance will be penalized for next year?! Damn. What woudl they have to do to get to the LMP1 class? What modifications? It's not Porsche's fault that their engineering under supposed "slower" rules makes them better than Audi.
