First off - GT2 qualifying - WOW - Henzler gets pole with Jaime in the Risi #62 a VERY close second.

Prototype qualifying just concluded - congratulations again to Brabs for his second overall pole position this season. What a "feather in the cap" for Acura - having just made the announcement of racing in P1 next year with the Highcroft and deFerran teams. Gil's car #66 takes second place. This is definitely not the best course for Audi.

Here's the link to the final qualifying standings: http://www.imsaracing.net/2003/lt/ltc.html

Race is live on Speed tomorrow. Should be a good one.

4 AM race time for me.
    Not to be missed though.
With times overlapping for all classes passing wont be as easy here as Mosport.

racing will be good but the track is horrible (you have to pay to get there, no cars on island) - last year many changes in surfaces, poor viewing for spectators - only one good turn complex where you were really up close to the cars but the darn chain link fence was obscuring a clear view. You couldn't get to the long straight the runs parallel to the river - we ended up watching the majority of the race in the Corvette display area looking at their several large screen tvs. Not a ALMS race on our list to attend again. Probably will end up catching race on XM and iPhone tomorrow afternoon if we head to the Austin area.

I'd like to see Brabs take another overall victory. I think the race will be he and deFerran, perhaps Fernandez in there for a little bit of it . . .

Some really big bumps in the braking zones it seemed watching qualifying. Reminds me a lot of Adelaide and Surfer's here in Oz.
Expected a stronger showing in qual's from Penske. Maybe in the race?
Yeah, I'm barracking for Brab's too as the P2 class championship goes down to the wire.

    Another new LMP1 car announced.

Corsa will compete as a Zytek factory team with its hybrid set to debut at Petit Le Mans and the Green Challenge at Road Atlanta on October 4.

    The Zytek LMP1 Hybrid
The car is based on a Zytek 07S carbon fiber/aluminum monocoque employing typical wishbone suspension with rack and pinion steering and fitted with a Ricardo six-speed sequential gearbox using a Zytek electronic gear shift system. The car will be powered through a combination of an ethanol-fueled internal combustion engine and a three-phase induction electric motor.

The ethanol-fueled engine is a newly designed Zytek 90-degree normally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 with four overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder with an output of 625 hp. The electric motor is a direct drive Zytek proprietary design powered by an on-board lithium-ion energy storage system with a KERS (kinetic energy recovery) supplemental regeneration system.

The heart of the system is the energy storage/battery system which enables the collection and conversion of mechanical energy to electrical energy permitting use of the electric motor resulting in more efficient power and a lower carbon footprint. The lithium-ion battery used on the car is supplied by Zytek shareholder Continental AG of Germany.

Initial tests of the car were held at Donington Park in the UK in July with additional tests ongoing in the UK before the car is transported to the United States prior to Petit Le Mans.

There's been mention of the 908's also being hybrid diesels - time will tell if that comes to fruition. We heard about the Zytek (although no team name was given) and battery power while having a late evening dinner in the bar at the Hartford airport Sheraton after LimeRock. Didn't realize at the time it would be Corsa doing this. Not long ago all their Ferrari stuff was for sale. Looks like Johnny Mowlen, Gunnar Jeanette and rumored ** Frankie Biela are the drivers for Petit. It will certainly be interesting to watch the Zytek with it's instant acceleration coming out of turns. Top all this with the potential for 17 P1 car field and it's going to be an absolutely awesome race.

Re: Detroit - it seems that since Porsche has gone with the "new engine" they've gone backwards. Think on this one . . . . Massen is out and Briscoe is in at Penske . . . Massen was development driver for the RS Spyder . . . rumor mill had mention of Porsche P1 -> could this be why he's not driving for Penske . . . that would be something if Porsche came out with a P1 car for 09 ---- anybody's guess.

    Go Brabs ! ! !
