that was a great race indeed! ALMS is, in my humble opinion, the best pure racing in America right now.
Felt bad for both Montagney and Salo in that one. I heard the announcers say that Rossiter went off doing 150mph, managing not to hit anything, then turning the car over to Montagney.
Mika had one helluva good run going and unfortunately got boxed by his teammate (and a few others) and gave it his all at the end but unfortunately didn't make the podium - he had no other choice but to give it his all and try to get first place back from the 87. For quite awhile he was running anywhere from .7 to .38 seconds ahead of Farnbacher. Apparently lots of comments about the over agressive driving on the part of Montagny - he was just too agressive into the turn and took out the GT2 Aston and himself - too bad for the 007. He should have just settled for second place knowing he couldn't get David in the remaining seconds of the race and just have been happy with that instead of wiping out someone else plus himself. This was one of the better ALMS races this year. It was a nice jesture on the part of Corvette to stay out of the way of the very intense GT2 battle at the end. Jon Field had yet another fabulous run in P1 - he came past us at turn 14 well ahead of the Audi's on several occasions - loved his comment about the ensuing battle -> he basically said those guys are fighting for their jobs, this is my vacation! What a time for Adrian Fernandez - he was running first in P2 for awhile only to have a rear suspension failure at the end.... he's got to be one of the nicest guys racing in ALMS. Same with Gil de Ferran, his unfortunate demise was the Ford GT but his crew was awesome in getting him back out on the track. It was also a great weekend not having the irl cars there. Mosport this weekend - it's the fastest of all the ALMS tracks - should provide some great racing. Can't wait for Petit and the addition of several other P1 cars including the 908's. It will be most interesting to see the entry list for this race when it becomes available. Great to meet you Andreas and hope you really enjoyed the race. Carol
I watched the race on Motors TV (switching the channels with a very nice documentary on Dutch TV on the 1979 GP at Zandvoort. Funny how people were debating that F1 is too much about the cars and too little about driverability even back then). I enjoyed it very much, but I wasn´t too pleased with the eventual outcome. I really would have loved to see Risi take this win. Respect to Salo and Melo for being back in contention so short after a gruesome 24h race in Europe.
Who did the commentary on Motors TV? was it Hindy and Katherine Legge?? "Hindy" does all the ALMS races live here and it was very interesting to listen to Katherine's commentary as well. She made out well from the dissolving of CART becoming an Audi factory driver (could do worse!). Yes, very definitely kudos to Mika and Jaime for competiting in 28 hours of tense GT2 racing in less than a week!!! and don't forget Rob Bell either. . . too bad his drive in Risi #61 wasn't a better one for him... always this coming weekend at Mosport. I don´t know who did the commentary. Two guys and a pitreporter, so no Legge. Commentary was good though. Both very well informed and articulate. Also very respectful to the drivers. Sometimes commentators have a tendency to blame a driver for whatever happens without having the facts.

Bomarito was terrific on Saturday and Tonis gets the drive of the weekend for his thirds in both races in the Genoa car. Bad deal with the Newman/Wachs cars taking each other down the order the first race. Simona spun from fourth place and collected Summerton. Of course, Summerton's win on Sunday made up for it! Simona finished 18th Sunday. My boy James Clay FTW in Touring Car for BMW!

Montagny was already ahead of David Brabham when he had the incident with the Aston. He may have feared Brabs pouncing as he worked the pass of the slower car. I agree that Montagny drove extremely aggressively the entire race. Did he see him flashing his lights at Marco Werner? No question, though, Montagny is fast.
