Aloha, I have been lurking around here for a few months. Not sure where the best place is to make an introduction but since I am on Oahu and have some specific questions thought I would start here.

Presently I am contemplating a 308 and was wondering how you guys handle your safety inspection requirements. Is there a place to take the car where I wont get uncomfortable with the inspection? Call me old fashioned but I dont like the idea of strangers handling my stuff. How do you guys deal with this?

Is there any negative vibe factor that you have to deal with when you are driving your sweet F car, or is it all shakas? These depressed times get me uncomfortable even opening the garage sometimes and I find that I eyeball everyone that I dont know who is passing by when my stuff is on display. I have had a few desireable toys over the years so I am not new to the game but I would be upping the antie a little with this potential new purchase so I am curious about the vibe.

Thanks for any replys as I feel my way around.

    Aloha

    Hi Darryl

Welcome to F-Chat. Is my assumption right that you are new to the forum but not new to Hawaii?

The annual safety inspection should be no problem. As usual, it is helpful to know about where and where not to go. I can give some specific advice if you would care to PM me.

People here are pretty used to seeing Ferraris on the road. For the most part the car will get very little reaction at all. When there is reaction, it will almost always be positive. As long as the car is being driven in a sane and safe manner, the chance of something negative happening is pretty small. If you go to Sunset Beach and leave a camera on the front seat, it is almost guaranteed that there will be a break-in, but that will happen whether the car is a Ferrari or a Fiesta.

Hawaii is a great place to call home and while the driving opportunities are not as exciting as other places, it is still a joy to have a fun car. I often hear the "Why would anyone want a Ferrari (or any exotic) in Hawaii" refrain. My standard reply is "This is where I live. Having a Ferrari in Hawaii is better than NOT having a Ferrari in Hawaii".

Again, welcome. More questions?? Please post.

    Aloha

Thanks so much for the reply. I am a transplant from Southern California and have been here for 4+ years. I am glad to know that there is someone who has a "good" list of places for the inspections, actually beyond glad. Watching kids grind my gears trying to drive my stick shift into the inspection bay is something I have experienced in my stay here and not something I want to live through with a Ferrari!

I have a PM heading your way, thanks again for the response.

Does anyone know how many 308/328's are here on the islands?

Hmmm. I would be surprised if anyone "KNOWS" how many 308/328 cars are here. There are cars scattered across the islands and there are cars that I used to see that have "disappeared". Some have simply been put into garages and left to sit and others have been sent off to the mainland. I would say that there are ten cars for certain. Twenty cars would not be out of the question. I think that thirty cars is unlikely.
