Alonso is still performing. He was quicker than Button most of the time in 2015, the points difference is only because he had (even) more mechanical problems.

But if Honda doesn´t get it soon or miraculously an empty seat appears at Mercedes, he´ll quit soon. He´s too old to wait for Renault and too grumpy to stay in F1 just for the fun or the money.

He should join Webber at Porsche and enjoy winning LeMans

I don't understand why so many on Fchat dump on Alonso, IMO he is one of the great GP drivers of the past 15 seasons. Is he past his prime? Possibly but with an uncompetitive car it is impossible to say. I think that any team would take him in a heartbeat, I would like to see him finish his career in a competitive car. Fire away!

Hardly the team player I can hardly see him being able to stand LeMans once he gets starts doing it or many teams even wanting him. Imho most top F1 drivers don't have the personality suited for sharing a car and setup with a couple other drivers or the patience for real endurance racing.

He's a very good driver, but his strategy to get very political in public to put pressure on his team usually shoots himself in the foot and isn't very endearing.

By contrast, another very good driver, Michael Schumacher, was very careful to avoid criticising his team in public even though I'm sure he had some words to say behind closed doors sometimes.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Perhaps, when presented with the possibility of signing Alonso, Red Bull's heart skipped a beat. Because that's just about how long it took them to say..."thanks, but no thanks."
