Stats & Facts: Great Britain 01 M.Webber 1:24:38.200 02 L.Hamilton +1.3 secs 03 N.Rosberg +21.3 secs Fastest Lap <--------------- F.Alonso 1:30.874 <--------------- Pole Position S.Vettel 1:29.615 Difference between PP and FL = 1.259 I suppose one could also argue it was pointless that RBR No. 1 Vettel had the pole, yet RBR No. 2 Webber won the race. Does that mean Webber truly is No. 2, but happened to beat the better driver? Or does that mean Webber is the better driver, but pointlessly, Vettel had the pole? Everything is subjective.
Uhhhh,... No! It has to do with Red Bull being so far ahead at the end, they don't need to push... Red Bull isn't "racing" for the last 10 laps. They're coasting.
Exactly. Claiming such kind of "victory" while both cars finish out of the points is simply pathetic on Ferrari's part.
To the casual observer a 7 times WDC clearly is the guy to cheer for. Winner takes it all attitude. Those who have been following a bit longer and care to look under the facade might come to a different conclusion. I'm perfectly fine being in a minority: It allows me to win bets against the majority in their herd thinking. Thanks to Schumacher and his Rottkaeppchen brigade this is turning into my most successful beer-year.
I wouldn't say the people who attend the races are merely casual observers. And Schumi gets the most cheers, bar none.
He does get the most cheers, I noticed that in Turkey as well. And you have a point that people who attend races are more than casual observers. So why do they cheer? Probably for the same reasons you went to Montreal: To see the ultimate legend of F1 racing live and in person. Heck, if I hadn't seem him before I would have gone solely for that reason too. He is the most successful F1 driver of all times and the equivalent of Einstein in Physics, Karajan in Orchestras, Houdini in Magic and Armstrong amongst astronauts (to name a few). And to be clear about this: I'm happy that he is back in F1 because he is a legend, a WDC and makes the sport more popular. But that won't stop me from thinking that he is a jerk, screwed Ferrari, lied to his fans and now sucks on the track and I won't be cheering for him.
ALONSO - "I had nothing to do with the Piquet Jr. incident" ALONSO - "I was not a traitor at McLaren"
But he got huge cheers before too - back then it was chalked up to him being at Ferrari... but in retrospect that wasn't the case Well at least you're not bitter - so you've got that going for you
Uh, Really? So Mark Webber won 3 races this season by "coasting" for the last 10 laps instead of "racing"? That makes no sense. FYI - F1 is a race with split-seconds being the difference between podium spots.
Is that really why you have such negativity towards him? If so, that's a p*ss poor reason. How about the guy contributed BIG TIME to 5 Ferrari championships? Brought Ferrari back to what it is? So who cares if MS didn't come back and help for a half season in a sh*tty car? I don't. Was I upset because he didn't? Of course. Do I now hate him because of that? NO! Because 5 CHAMPIONSHIPS! Some things outweigh others. He didn't screw Ferrari. He would have been screwing Ferrari if they were in a constructors title fight, but they weren't even close. So who cares? MS was screwed by Ferrari back in '06 when their chance to sign Kimi came and they did, and out goes MS. I know MS had chance to drive along side Kimi, but why would he? And you must be only one who expected MS to this great driver this year, thats the backing for your harsh comments. I certainly didn't. He has been off 3 years, different cars, different class of competitors, and different F1. If you expected him to win right away, it was a bit of a stretch. Alex
Confused ... ??? The goal of any racing driver is to win the race at the slowest possible speed to guarantee that the finish and to (now in particular) to look after the engines cause they have to reuse them. So yes most races are finished with the leaders coasting, or "cruising" ... they are most definitely not setting lap records all the way to the end as that would be silly. Pete
err Kimi last year ? he waitied until the end to put in the good times ??!!! like WTF are you doing KR ??
That's why you hear all the talk of dialing back the revs on the engines, it's to avoid situations like Vettel at Bahrain or Spain, remember how slow he had to drive to get to the finish? Just look what happened to Peugeot this year at Le Mans, they pushed too hard for too long and had 3 failures of the exact same nature.
You are missing the point. For the first 3/4 of the race almost every lap came up FASTEST LAP - MARK WEBBER. Untill he was sufficiently far ahead so as he could back off to look after his engine tyres and gearbox. At the end the cars are so much lighter than they are at the start, that almost any car on the grid will beat the fastest lap times that were set at the start. The fact remains that the RedBulls and the Mclarens get so far ahead and settled that when it comes to the last part of the race where the fastest times can be set they are more interested in finishing the race than taking the car to 11/10ths. Unlike Alonso whos back in the field and has to carry on driving at 11/10ths for the whole race. This means that at the end when the cars are lightest he is setting the fastest lap times. The fact is that the Red Bulls are easily the fastest cars on the grid and I don't know how even as the most blind of Ferrari fans you can't just accept that hey, this year we havn't got the best car. Theres nothing to lose in that. You don't need to make excuses and try and make the car out to be better than it is.
Meh, the car is not so bad. Without problems with lapped drivers, safety-cars and drive-troughs in the last three races, Alonso would be just a few points from the lead of the championship. Both drivers at Red Bull are making lots of mistakes and hopefuly McLaren will implode as they use to do. There is still hope.
I agree. There have been some stupid mistakes and bad luck, but they're still improving. In qualifying the Red Bulls are still a bit too much, but in race trim the Ferrari might be better than their results show.
No one has the speed in the corners the Red Bull does. Beyond that the results are in. The Ferrari is still .5 or more down, even with improvements on the Red Bull. Ferrari are in dire need of a miracle both from Mclaren and Red Bull. Ferrari are a nice 3rd in terms rank or even 4th with Renault nosing them out at times. No matter its a Red Bull year unless they simply give up and implode. I dont think it will happen. Next year is never too far away when you dont have a chance. Ferrari are fast approaching the ' wait till next year ' point. In fact it really probably has already arrived in reality. Id like to see more and hope for the best. The chemistry of the team really does not support results that are better than we have already. Luck and chemistry are elusive for Ferrari at the moment.
Well, don't assume you know why I based my opinion that Ferrari F1 cars are faster than Red Bull Renault F1 cars, and you might get it. Your reasoning isn't my reasoning. I respect your opinions and information about qualifying, your opinions about final lap strategy, your opinions about driver ability, etc. I get all that, but it doesn't change my opinion that Ferrari F1 cars are faster than Red Bull Renault F1 cars. Maybe I'm right. Maybe I'm wrong. You won't change my mind here. Right or wrong, that's my opinion. Thank you for reading.
