err, part of what makes a driver a great RACER is knowing when to push and when not to. to be a cold 'calculating' sob!!! they don't hand out points for quali, and that Ferrari has nearly always been half a step slower than RB in quali pace, means FA has done a great job as a 'racer' in the past few races. winning races consistently when you DON'T have the fastest car out there...that's champion material

I still see a RB driver as the WDC.

Yeah, I know some of my moderating was a bit...uhmm robotic.

 

I have to admit I am very impressed with the way Alonso has handled the championship to date!

I think all of us can agree that it looked like Alonso was talking out his *** when he was still talking about the championship mid-year. It looked pretty much over for him...

However, to his everlasting credit he did NOT quit or give up and has kept working and stringing together podiums and victories down the stretch (6 podiums out of the last 7 races).

I find it hard to find any way he could have done more...

The man is displaying great fighting spirit and I am happy to see him refuse to let the team just throw in the towel on the season.

If he goes on to win the WDC this year it will be every bit as impressive to me as Prost's WDC in 86. In 86 the Williams chassis was BY FAR the fastest and best chassis, but Prost kept his head down, kept finishing on the podium, and picked up wins when the dominant Williams of Piquet and Mansell faltered.

Alonso winning the WDC matched against the 2 talented drivers Vettel and Webber in a far superior Red Bull Racing chassis to me would belong in the same category...

The fact that it would be in a Ferrari cockpit just makes it that much sweeter...

i agree with you, BUT, you/me we hold to a contrary opinion to that of those many anti-FA folks here...that is, if FA wins the title, it will be 'tainted' because Ferrari isn't playing 'fair' with its drivers. ie, they are disrespecting Massa by making him support FA, etc, etc, etc, etc. as is if it's anything new in the world of F1.

 

I think they're just playing it smarter...nothing tainted about it. it's a TEAM, as we all know.
