German Bild refers to Spanish AS newspaper, which states that Alonso will sign a 3 year deal with Renault starting in 2008. Obviously that would exclude him from Ferrari for quite a while.

Their welcome to him - at least he won't play games with Flav!

...he belongs to Renault more than any other team, Briatore will let him be his number 1 without complaining, and he knows the drill, the team, the car...and the other 2 rivals -Ferrari and McLaren- will have now lost all the info to Renault...

I guess is the worst of our nightmares, as Ferrari will now have the other 2 top teams knowing those tinny little secrets that win championships and makes cars go faster...and make drivers look heroic!

it´s a WIN-WIN situation for Renault...any money they pay will come cheap...they are buying everything about stephneygate info, legally, with one of the fastest drivers on the grid, and find why they are so slow this year...

all in one neat package!...I guess Ferrari will have McLiaren and Renault breathing in the neck for the next 3 or 4 years...

prepare for Renault come back with legal Ferrari technology... narrated by Fernando Alonso...only on Discovery Channel

FA wife and manager watched the Japanese race from the Renault hospitality area. If he goes to Renault then Fisi goes to Williams and Nico goes to Mclaren.

Fernando Alonso in Japan two weeks ago was shown details of Renault's plans to return to the world title in 2008 and beyond - including detailed information about next year's R28 single seater, according to reports.

Spanish sources including the magazine Autopista says the 26-year-old reigning world champion met with Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds on the Saturday at Fuji Speedway, where they discussed a possible two or three-year contract starting in 2008.

It is believed that Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn is reluctant to enter a one-year arrangement with Alonso, after which he would be free to switch to Ferrari or another top rival for 2009.

Autopista said Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad also attended the half-hour meeting, and later with the McLaren driver's wife Raquel they followed the track action from the comfort of Renault's hospitality area.

The magazine claimed that Alonso's team-mate would not be Giancarlo Fisichella, as in 2005 and 2006, because the Roman may be moving to Williams to fill the seat vacated by Nico Rosberg, who is first in line to replace Alonso at Woking based McLaren.

In contention to become Alonso's team-mate, then, are incumbent Heikki Kovalainen and current Renault test driver Nelson Piquet Jr.

This should be home for Alonso. They deserve each other and he can sink into obscurity there. Make the contract Ironclad and 10 years.
I just pulled a buy-out number out of the air; $100 Million dollars.

If it's true I think it's for the best he is a great driver and with a bit of luck next year we will have a three horse race.

Afterall Renault know what there letting themselves in for with him, and I think Flav knows how to handle him probably will be a easier task after his experience at Mclaren..

He will be gunning for Lewis the upstart rookie for ruining his season whether he takes WDC or not ,which will be great to watch.

And with even more luck we'll have a 4 horse race if BMW continues it upwards trend.

    You guys are forgetting Massa.
With better luck we'll also have Nico in a Mclaren and maybe even Webber in a better RBR.

it will help things yeah - but even this the most exciting championship for years hasnt exaclty been gr8.
they need to do away with lots of the aerodynamic packages to allow more passing. (plus other changes)

Looks like he learned a good lesson from MS and FA. Money is important to drivers.

" Money, he insists, is not the issue. "Everybody rich could stop working. But you're not working for the money. You're working for the pleasure of working." Briatore pauses, then adds, with an avuncular chuckle, "Of course, when you are talking about drivers, this is a different department. Money is always important for a driver. It is very difficult to make a driver buy you a cup of coffee."

    Nonsense.

What do you think the shelf life of F1 technology is? 2 races? 3 races?

What is the name of the Greek aerodynamicist who left Ferrari for McLaren in 2004 and then returned to Ferrari a season later? You think he brought any McLaren info over to the team when he returned?

Dilution of technology goes on every day in F1, employees of one team move to another regularly and surely the technical staff brings their technical knowledge with them.

Why? So we can have mediocre #2 drivers all around?

None of those drivers will ever seriously threaten for the WDC, ESPECIALLY Webber.
