From Mr.F1 EXCLUSIVE: Fernando Alonso will sign a contract with Mercedes GP in a few days. Same duo as 2007 with McLaren. I don't know if this is true but the followers of this guy increased rapidly from October 2013. Just say.
First wrote a reply thinking he indeed signed Mclaren. Read the twitter and he has (allegedly) signed for Merc! WOW! WOW!
Can't find that anywhere... EDIT: Just being reported by Monsieur F1 (source: someone close to FA's camp). I don't know if it's a good or bad thing to have those two together again.
I'm a huge Alonso fan and for the sake of his career I hope he is leaving Ferrari for McLaren or better even for Lauda's team. My loyalty is with Ferrari but realistically they suck at this point and have cost Alonso several titles. The Scuderia doesn't deserve a super talent like Fernando. In fact he actually hurt the team by making their cars look better than what they are. With Massa this wasn't so obvious but now that Massa is doing fairly well at Williams and WDC Raikkoenen looks just as bad as Massa did, it becomes blatantly obvious that Alonso was hoisting the POS car to many podiums it didn't deserve on its own. Time to wake up in Maranello.
Here's the tweet: Monsieur_F1 ( Mr.F1) ‏@MonsieurF1 4h EXCLUSIVE: @alo_oficial will signed a contract with @MercedesAMGF1 in a few days. Same duo as 2007 with @McLarenF1 ( @LewisHamilton ) #F1 Title of the thread is wrong (caught me out), it should say he's heading to Merc.
It's a good thing the title is wrong: otherwise a recuperating kraftwerk might get a rude awakening If true this means Hami must win this years title as the next year things won't be so easy against Fred
I'm still confused regarding why you believe this is Lauda's team in any way other than perhaps a tiny position in that he reports the team happenings along with Toto to the board at Daimler. That's his only involvement. Everything else, all team building, was a result of Ross Brawn and Bob Bell.
Lol Either scenario: Alonso to Mercedes Vettel to Ferrari Rosberg to Red Bull Hulkenberg left sulking or Alonso to Mercedes Rosberg to Ferrari Hulkenberg left sulking Can't quite see him retire just yet. I'd be extremely happy with option one
No shock he knows this year is over for hit title ambitions. Last year he gave clear signals it was over with Ferrari. Assssssssssuming all of this is true about the the data posted
A few months ago he was going to McLaren-Honda. Even Sergio Pérez´s dad said it was a done deal. There was a joint McLaren and Honda press conference scheduled for today, before the Spanish GP, and the rumour was that they were going to present Alonso as their new driver and their new sponsor, the Spanish telecommunications corporation Movistar (which also owns the F1 TV rights for Spain). The buzz was in the Spanish press for months. As nothing of that happened today, the new story is that he´s going to Mercedes. A rumour started by an average twetter, not even a journalist. Meh, I´ll bellieve it when I see it. It would be a good move for Alonso, although maybe not so good for Mercedes. You know: don´t make changes in a winning team.
I can't see Alonso having the patience to go through more development years at McHonda before they start winning. He wants another world championship yesterday, ASAP! So yeah I feel Alonso and Vettel will both make a play to Mercedes. Rosberg can end up at the Scuderia; use his pretty hair in Fiat 500 adverts.
If this is true, it is monumental. I see it looking the way Bas does: Alonso to Mercedes Vettel to Ferrari Rosberg to Red Bull Hulkenberg left sulking ...and what the hell, Brawn to Ferrari as well!
I can't see the logic in signing Alonso if Hamilton is dominating F1 in your car! - You're just creating problems for yourself! (As McLaren found out!). I can see the appeal for Alonso - The possibility of an easy WDC! However, for Mercedes, Hamilton and Alonso in the same team will always end up badly! - It's in both their natures and no amount of maturing is going to suddenly make them buddies on track in the same team! My money would be on this story being BS, but if Alonso does want out then it'll be: "See ya! - Don't wanna be Ya!" as My friend Ally Pally would say!
Why? Achieved absolutely nothing in F1, less than Weber did in 2nd string teams and yet the misguided (IMO) still push for him to have more chances. No wonder Massa hung around for so long. Pete
Agree, but the situation is different now and WILL be better managed. McLaren miss-managed the whole disaster back then and should have pulled LH in and particularly told him off for the qualifying drama that HE caused. Now both are WDC's and both want a good car. The car is so good they could share wins and we will finally see some quality racing instead of the current artificial stuff. BUT importantly the team needs to ensure both drivers stick to the team play, ie. if you are asked to give your team mate a tow during qualifying you bloody well do! Pete
