I really cannot see what Alonso is getting at in declaring that Kubica is the best F1 driver. Kubica hasn't driven a F1 since end on 2009. As far as we know, he is out of a drive, having lost his Renault (now Lotus) seat. Boulier has finally lost patience with him and his manager. For all we know he is crippled, with limited movement in his right arm/hand. There is a mystery about the extend of his injuries. He has made no public appearance, nor disclosed his medical condition. Why? Also, he recently broke his leg again. So, how can he still be considered as a F1 driver? even less the "best" ?
As per Andreas post, it's just to lift his spirits. Logically, how can Alonso say he's the best, when he just won once? I mean i don't have anything against Kubica, but i agree with Andreas 100%.
I think it's usual for drivers to comment that the 'best' person, the person most likely able to beat them is someone they wont be racing against. It's a backhanded compliment to every other top-tier bum in an F1 seat for this year.
