After the Monza disaster, there is only one real solution, which brings high hopes for the 2019 season: Get rid of Seb, Kimi and Arrivabene. Alonso is the one to have for 2019. At this moment, he would be far ahead of Hamilton with the 2018 car. And I am sure, he would be very grateful to drive finally in a performant, competitive Ferrari. He will move mountains to add a WCD and a WCC to his and Ferrari's palmares. Leclerc is the future (and his contract is signed), for sure, let him learn from Alonso. FERRARI, MAKE IT HAPPEN. Really, Seb has lost all credibility. Your views, please.
Silverstone: Vettel and Arrivabene are geniuses! Monza: Vettel and Arrivabene are the worst! Which is it?
I'm not sure I'd say Seb lost all credibility after Monza. I think it was a little red mist but it is F1, sadly you almost do win or lose on lap one. Both Seb and Lewis pushed hard into the corner and one wasn't going to work. Alonso is done with current F1 even if Ferrari did call him.
The worst thing Seb did was throw a race out the window in the rain. Alonso is toxic no matter where he goes. A great talent NO ONE WANTS anymore, not even McLaren.
Ah yeah I forgot to watch Germany. Yeah but Alonso is sick of the lack of racing in F1. Or so he says.
Alonso would like nothing but come back to the Scuderia. His announcement was just a statement.... That a man with his skills would be of high interest for any team is no secret. He is just expensive. And about Monza's first corner, Seb should have let pass Hamilton there. There is hardly space for 2 there, Seb was lacking traction, and kind of slided into Hamilton's side. He knew he had the faster car. If he had a cool head, he let go, and overtake Elton in one of the next 60 laps.... Easy. Seb is acting like a child , not very capable of facing pressure.
Well yeah we agree on Monza. I wish Alonso got a Ferrari offer but he just seems sick of the current F1 status. It’s not helping when you’re in a total POS either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Is the mindset of Seb where Hamilton's was in 2016? He is not handling the pressure making mistakes that will cost him another WDC. If he handled 2017 better he may have been WDC with 5 titles and this year would be title 6. He is throwing away title 5 this year. He needs sit down regather his thoughts move on focused on winning using his head. Alsono if he was with the Scuderia I have no doubt would be leading the WDC by a much more hefty margin at this point than Hamilton is. He may be toxic but he can get the results with the right car.
For what reason? To destroy the teamwork again? Teams that don't want Alonso Ferrari Mercedes McLaren Red Bull Renault Alfa/ Sauber Toro Rossa Teams that cannot afford Alonso Williams Force India
Alonso is toxic waste. He cannot be in a winning team because the culture he creates around him destroys teamwork. For the Scuderia to bring Alonso back to Ferrari would be like a dog returning to it’s vomit. He is a team killing waste of talent. If it was only about driving RB would have hired Alonso, Renault would have hired him. They didn’t. Actually it’s quite unusual how vocal RB has been about why they won’t hire him because of all the problems he causes within a team. Alonso has tried to defend his ego by making claims of RB’s offer. It’s always funny how almost every person on this forum has their blinders on pretending that driving is the only part of the job and the only quality that matters. Every single person that’s ever had a job of any kind knows that regardless of talent people have to work to improve a culture and work within that culture.
Yeah as said I didn’t watch Germany but heard what happened. France once again red mist. Dumber than Monza. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I find it funny how all of you guys know SOOOOO much about what goes behind the scenes, about "personalities" etc without first hand knowledge... If it means anything, me and a few other FOG'ers were fortunate enough to meet Luca Di Montezemolo a few years back when he came to California, and at the time Alonso was already 2-3 seasons into the team and he had nothing but praise for Alonso. He even went as far as saying on a Sunday, Alonso is the best he has ever witnessed, even better than Schumacher and he is an inspiration for everyone on the team and everyone is trying their best to win. No offense, but I'll take Luca's word.
Who knows for certain? The "personality" could be as much the reason why as could be "money" or any one of a hundred other things that are not publicly discussed. Bringing up Christian Horner isn't much of a justification either tbh...in case you guys forget, he went "full tw@t" on Ricciardo in interviews right after Ricci announced the switch to Renault...as far as saying Ricciardo, "is afraid of Max and that's why he left for an inferior team." Alonso has driven for the best teams on the grid, except Mercedes. Similar to the unlikelihood of Ricciardo going to Ferrari while Seb is there, it's not hard to fathom that Hamilton would be totally against Alonso coming onboard at Mercedes, and the team logically don't need to jeopardize or take the risk to disrupt their already proven #1...what would be the incentive? If Hamilton wasn't there I'm pretty sure Alonso would be. What other competitive team is there now? It's really just Ferrari & Mercedes then Red Bull. Ferrari already have Seb as #1. Mercedes already have Hamilton as #1. Red Bull leadership obviously don't like Alonso...so where else "competitively" do you think he could or would want to go? Maybe if his goal is to just "participate" and stay in F1 Renault would be an option...but like so many of you have already said, after so many seasons of not being able to win, what makes you think a driver of Alonso's experience and age would want to continue at a non-competitive Renault team?
Better Alonso's off-track "personality" or Vettel's on-track "amateur-hour blunders"? You guys decide what's going to win the championship.
Ferrari's team leadership is just not up to the job. They are a disaster. They only win when they get lucky. Mercedes wins because they have better leadership and they keep fighting, even when they are in the lead. Ferrari, when they are in the lead, they all get complacent and drop the ball.
One thing that really annoys me is that a driver crashes the car and suddenly some folks want to fire all the team. Those are the same ones that say that Ferrari tends to overreact!! Example: Lucky??? At Spa they were not lucky, they were just faster. The car is OK. There has been some mistakes at the pits, but those happen at every team. The major loss of points were driver errors. Let´s hope that the car stays competitive and that there are not more driver´s errors. If there are, then it´s time to check the driver market, but chill out, dudes, there is no need to start cutting heads like crazy. About Alonso, he´s out, and we don´t know if he´ll be back. Maybe we´ll resume the debate in 2019, but for now forget it. I´d replace Raikkonen with Leclerc: it´s not about replacing Raikkonen, but about having an alternative to Vettel.
You forgot this one... (Baku) https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/headlines/2018/4/i-had-to-try-_-vettel-on-his-failed-pass-for-the-lead.html
That was a combination of first pit wall strat then Vettel locking up into T1 to overtake Lewis...IMO.
Alonso, the pariah of F1, back at Maranello? What a .... strange ... idea. Does Alonso have to revisit all the teams where he created chaos?
