Alonso linked with McLaren return Alonso linked with McLaren return | Planet F1 | Formula One | News, Standings, Results, Features, Video If I was Magnussen, I would start to get worried, unless it's Jenson who's up for the chop at the end of 2014.
Makes sense. Ferrari was worried he'd jump ship for 2014 but it looks now more like 2015. McLaren+Honda+Alonso Sounds like irresistible force all over again.
Ron Dennis is not gone from McLaren... just behind the scenes.... Alonso is wanting out - He should go.
The Honda engine is going to be difficult to resist from a lot of drivers who want to win another championship (or their first) before they retire.
A lot of Indycar drivers are resisting Honda engines just fine, I think. Alonso thinks he's good at head games, but just like he didn't impress any of the better drivers (Hamilton as teammate, Vettel as competitor and Kimi as teammate next year) the better teams won't be easily swayed by him either.
Didn't Alonso say he wants to retire at Ferrari? I believe if Ferrari can give him a superb car next year, he won't go anywhere beyond that.
Why is everyone singing praises or speculating that the Honda engine is going to be great? Frankly, i don't see Alonso moving to Mclaren. The team looks unstable, Martin Whitmarsh looks like a weak leader. The drivers they have at the moment are questionable. Lots of things to factor in.
Ah, I thought it was something new, but it´s just the same from some days ago. Funny how some webs just regurgitate stuff from other webs.
I think this is the standard quote from anyone within the first 6 months of working at Ferrari. Ross Brawn Schumacher Kimi Alonso Todt Massa The list is much longer.
The popular consensus seems to be that the Honda engine for 2015 will be great, and everybody remembers the dominant Honda turbos of the 80s and the 90/91 V12s. However, I also remember the relatively unimpressive V10s and V8s of their 2000 era period as constructors - those Honda engines weren't actually competitive, reports suggested that they were OK on peak power, but didn't have the torque curve or wide power band that the other engines provided. I recall comments from Brawn team and drivers Button and Barrichello in 09 after they had to hack in the Mercedes engine to replace the Honda, they were surprised at how much better the Mercedes engine was compared to the Honda units they'd been running the previous few years. So, Honda's most recent F1 engines were a flop... 5 years later, what will they build? Another uncompetitive unit, or will they hark back 30 years and build another leading unit?
Very true, and porsche's v12 for the footwork arrows team was a dog too. Past success doesn't guarantee future success. As for Alonso if ferrari want to keep him they need to build a competitive car. It's that simple.
If past success were a guarantee Ferrari would build a world beater every season. As would McLaren and Williams and...
Past success indeed means nothing. Engines are built to spec almost entirely. The real difference is in the mapping imo. Engines can't weigh less than x (all of them within a few grams of minimum weight ofcourse), can't be smaller than x, only certain materials are allowed... Even revs are limited at a lowly 15000, so there's no real challenge there. The turbo can only spin to X amount. The fuel rate is 100kg and hour. That's why I think it was so idiotic of people that actually believe that Merc will have ''100hp advantage'' over everyone. Unless no one else builds an engine and they're competing against Isuzu.... The biggest difference will be at best 30hp on the engine. For the electronics I can't speak.
True. It's getting to the point where they might as well all use the same motors. After all cost cutting is the prime objective.
