A "seriously good driver", Alonso said. The Spaniard reckoning that he is 'definitely ex-F1'... The Stig clad in his famous white racing overalls and helmet was present at Silverstone last weekend, behind the wheel of a two-seater Santander grand prix car as he lapped the circuit before the F1 cars took to the starting grid on Sunday ahead of the British Grand Prix. A watching Alonso was clearly impressed. Whoever's in that car is a seriously good driver, the 26-year-old Spaniard a 19-time grand prix winner is quoted as having said by Top Gear's website. I've no idea who he is, but he's definitely ex-F1.
Then that's probably an F1 or ex F1 they had for that specific event. Just like they got Heikki to dress up as the Stig and drive the Renault around the track. If you're anal enough to do all the research, or have the time, then it's obvious Ben Collins is the Stig most of the time.
He did say Ex-formula 1 driver, haha. In seriousness though, Alonso has said that he never had anything against Hamilton, it was the way the team was acting towards him.
i thought Damon Hill was the former Stig. i doubt he has the time now to be the Stig, since he's the BRDC president?
I always thought it was Hill. You just don't hear enough about what he's up to now. It fits. After all, the Stig in the 'reasonably priced car' put down a lap time faster than Nigel Mansell. Who ever it is, Hill or not, the guy is clearly professional. _J
It was probably Hill at Silverstone and Ben Collins the rest of the time. As far as I know Ben Collins doesn't have any GP experience but I could be wrong.
The title of this thread should be "Alonso rates A Stig". There are so many different folks who played the Stig over the years, that his comment is only valid for the one he saw at Silverstone.
The former Stig "Black Stig" was Perry McCarthy. Damon is president of the BRDC, and has denied being the Stig on several occasions. Actually I saw him in an interview, and when asked the question he seemed slightly angered, as he gets asked it so much.
Don't forget the overweight Stig driving the Toyota F1 indoors. That Stig was also videotaped without his helmet on, lol.
the Renault Stig was Heikki, while the Toyota Stig was Olivier. he was filed in the white racing suit getting ready w/out the helmet on.
