I think if he wins another he is out. His goal is 1 more from what he has said in the past. No matter he seems secure at Ferrari.

I think that such long contracts are negative and they are rarely honoured to the end anyway.

How can Ferrari predict Alonso's form 5 years from now?
Also, how can Alonso speculate that Ferrari will provide him with competitive cars for that period?

Given the time frame such an F1 contract can't be taken at face value. More a way of saying "we're behind you, concentrate on racing." than anything else.

Stability is a good thing. They need to revamp the tech dept more now.....
With Adrian Newey trying to keep Webber for another year, there may be no changes in the top 4 teams for next year......

F1 contracts are made to be broken. I'll be shocked if he stays that long.

And the frequently are, but it is costly sometimes. Ask Jenson Button, he broke a few!
For Ferrari, it's a different matter; they can send to pasture any driver they want and pay him lots of money not to race.

I guess the wise ones of Fchat were wrong yet again by saying Alonso would leave the moment the car was bad

Signing contracts and staying long term is so rare in F1 these days.

Team loyalty is largely a thing of the past. Drivers are hired guns. Hessians.

2016... I'm skeptical he'll stay that long. but who knows. I really wish they'd hurry up and sign rosberg so I could cheer for them again

This is more political on Ferrari's end than a statement of Alonso's worth.

If you tie up all the good drivers and want to break away from F-1 and start your own series like LDM is talking... then you need some star drivers to come with you.

I would suspect that Todt's son is signing a lot of the up and coming with him and Ferrari... just to be Strategic.

When the time comes - break the contract - pass it on to a wealthy country like Abu Dahabi sponsor.. and make a new theme park ( and some cars) .....

I'm pretty sure he won't be staying with the team that long. At least that's what I'm hoping, because this would be equally boring as the 10+ years MS stayed with the team.

I like it when drivers stay with a team for say 4 years and then move on. Thereafter it becomes more of the same old same old.

Alonso will retire once he wins a WDC with Ferrari. Maybe Ferrari is saying that it will take them at least another 5 years until they're in that position?

Anyhow, I hope Alonso wins the title in a couple of years, then retires and gets replaced by Vettel.
