They're on "double secret probation" .... like McLaren after "lie-gate".

The point isn't to eliminate the manufacturers, per se, but to eliminate the independence of the manufacturer backed teams.

They now have Renault dangling on a string, and Briatore permabanned.

Max doesn't need to eliminate Renault outright -- FIA now holds a "do what we say" card over them.

FIA is acting to prevent any recurrence of a break-away threat.

    Point taken.
Not to mention that the message is sent to teams other than Renault.

what a load of ****. Blatant cheating and more or less nothing happened.

The fact that Piquet got immunity annoys me the most. Why? Just because Flav told him he should have a crash (or even worse, nelson himself apparently suggested it), doesn't mean he should do it. And then to whine about it to the press.

Piquet, you spineless motherless @$#%....I honestly hope you'll never be back in F1. Your spins weren't even entertaining after the 7th time.

Yes indeed F1 is strewn with cowpats from the devils own satanic herd.

Mosley is happy he got his man Flav, the only thing he set out to do, timing was everything.

Now who is next on the hit list.

F1 needs the entire structure of motorsport justice changing. However it won't whilst Mosley or any of his side kicks remain in the FIA.

Whats a suspended ban? Does this mean they won't race this season any longer?

Translation: Now, now, now, Renault. There will be no cheating in F1. If you cheat again, we're going to be really, really, mad...we may even punish you next time.

    Mark

PS: If I was at McLaren, I'd be f'ing fuming at the "punishment."

It's like a suspended sentence--basically probation with the provision that any further violations will result in previous punishments being levied. So something minor can result in serious consequences.

Are you suggesting that Flav being banned wasn't justice?

No Ian, it was the only thing that they could do, that was the obvious move.
The FIA/Max clearly wanted the sport to be entirely rid of Briatore.

However because of the precedent set of previous misdemeanors in F1 and in particular with Renault the justice meted out is a joke, in comparison.

NPJ gets off Alonso walks Symonds gets 5 years out of the sport, Renault did well.

Do you not think this was a more serious affair than Mclarens.?

Vatanen has it right and it is probably just the tip of the iceberg, and the top of that iceberg is Max!.

More effort has been shown in not upsetting the head chiefs at Renault than the actual life threating orders of Flav of sending a guy into a wall.. pathetic but expected.

I know ..:) well read this:
Max is as guilty as Flav and Symonds, he sat on that info awaiting the time to use it. He could have used Quest at the time why didn't he, but no he'd rather cover it up so he is as guilty as them. He should be in prison for letting it slide, besides I thought one of the main aims of the FIA was to make the sport safer.

Ari should speak out more and blow the lid off it all.

Yes but we don't know if he questioned it or not. This doesn't automatically mean he knew what was going on. There's still no proof of that, regardless of what whiney b**** Sr and Jr say. Why would Alonso question it in the first place, it's not like the car was competitive for most of the year anyway. The win was a surprise to all of us and he seemed surprised by it too.

Max should indeed bear the ultimate responsibility. IMO he created the environment that allowed this sort of thing to be even conceivable.
