+1 Had a nice chat with him last year at Hockenheim. Very open and friendly. He speaks his mind. Many others provide the corporate script. He has a good CV in racing.

He never won Le Mans. He finished second, similar to many of the posters making disparaging comments on his career......;)

Unless he is faking something which is not his style,I suspect there is feeling by his doctors its not safe to let him drive. Thank goodness its not another Michael issue.

If the loss of consciousness, sedation for transport, memory loss, and reports of concussion are accurately relayed, it looks obvious to me that he at least had some sort of mild traumatic brain injury. In light of all that, the PR work by Ron Dennis describing Alonso as being "devoid of all injury" sounds bull****.

However, I'm not a medical doctor... what is the likelihood of the paramedic team sedating Alonso for the journey even if he scored quite well on the Glasgow Coma Scale (or similar assessment)? I really have no idea.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Andrew,I worked trauma for years when I was a kid.The only reason they would immediately sedate him was if he was semi conscious and very agitated and they did not yet confirme that his c-spine was intact (CT scan),then one lets the sedation wear off. There is more to this than is being let out.

Has McLaren addressed that burned/scorched spot on the left side of the engine cover, that was visible in a number of photos?

Articles state it's a reflection of the camera mounted on top of the air intake.

I thought it was a burn mark as well but it appears it moves in different shots which confirms the shadow from the camera pod of other item on the car. See below...

Back to the subject of Alonso.

Since he is confused and has amnesia, he is obviously not capable of competing.

In order to compete, he needs to remember things about the track and the car and team strategy, and be able to draw upon his years of professional experience.

Recovering memory after an episode of amnesia is a case by case phenomenon. I am not talking about the normal local amnesia about not recalling the crash itself. Alonso didn't remember he that he had raced in F1 his professional life. He thought he was still racing carts.

I've had a few patients who had amnesia, for some it took months and for others a year or so. Its difficult to know if they had a complete recovery of their memory.

Alonso will recover. But to compete at a high level this season is a tall order.

He may have to miss more than just the season opener in Australia.

You're right, it appears to be the reflection of that camera pod. That pod is only on the left side and is not present on other cars. It was reported by somebody as a burn mark. But, now I see it as a reflection. Thanks.

Where is the footage from those cameras, or are they dummy cameras used for testing purposes?

There is the very real chance that the car had nothing to do with causing the crash.

In which case, the focus shifts back to Alonso. Driver error getting off line or else an arrhythmia causing him to become disoriented. The fact that the wall is solid concrete without any tire barrier would mean the car and driver absorbs all the kinetic energy.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Alonso has no place in McLaren.

I'm afraid he ended his career with this move.

I wonder if this is truly the case or just convenient? In the end it is a sad state for Alonso and for F1 if he sits out a few races or worse. Already missing him in red.....

Some here are already quietly slow roasting the crow for the many. Hard to say if it will be needed but the quiet rarely have to raise a fork.
