The fact that so many fans(?) are willing to accept such incredible explanations says a lot about the level of distrust that the sport has generated.

I agree. I can't believe everyone has taken this hook line and sinker... Really?

I don't blame him... McLaren are a mess and I guess he doesn't want to be seen anywhere near the paddock until the straight in out.

I think that you've got my post backwards.
My assumption is that he's injured.

And nobody in recent memory has done more to engender distrust than Alonso. Last years fan dance was a disgrace. I was actually a causal fan of his, until that amateur attempt at playing the Prince.

Alonso apparently said in the hospital when he woke up : "I had this terrible dream that my car was dead last"

The doctor said: "that was no dream. That was true! You're fine!"

Whereby Alonso said: "wake me when my car is fast again".

Your point is mine. Distrust is at an all time high, and the driver who would like to be regarded as the best of a generation is leading the band. It is sad. Alonso had the potential to be a transcendent figure, but he has shown himself to personify the deceitful, manipulative, complicated, devious and dishonest figure that the sport cuts in 2015. Why wouldn't there be ridiculous tales rampant regarding him personally?

The foolish speculation isn't limited to Alonso. Neither is the irrational dislike.
The entire sport deserves ridicule. Too bad many need a face to put it on.

Fernando Alonso causes problems in Maranello!*

Fernando Alonso caused some problems for his old team Ferrari today when he turned up for work in Maranello stating he is eager to get back in the car and start his Championship campaign again with them.

Ferrari bosses spent several hours trying to convince Alonso that he had actually left Ferrari and was now a McLaren driver, but, despite all evidence put forward to convince him of the truth, Alonso repeatedly stated that he has no memory whatsoever of having signed for McLaren, and that Ferrari are his team, of whom he loves dearly.

Several Ferrari sources are quoted as saying that they suspect that having driven the McLaren in pre-season testing, and having seen the McLaren's performance in Melbourne, he may well be faking his amnesia in a desperate bid to avoid having to drive it ever again!

*NOTE: This whole story may not actually be true! ;)

And driving that car will turn him bat**** insane.
I think the chances of seeing Alonso in the Mclaren this year are slimmer every day!

    OK... this is getting weird

Fernando Alonso mystery grows; Formula One star no lock to start in Malaysia | Autoweek

And as the Formula One circus runs around Albert Park, Alonso posted a YouTube video showing that his mind is once again razor sharp, as he works on a reaction-time machine. McLaren insists nothing failed on Alonso's MP4-30 in Barcelona, but the British team also says its star driver has passed every medical test since the crash.

Team boss Eric Boullier on Friday described Alonso's medical situation as "personal.”

"Nobody has access to the medical files except the doctors," said Boullier.

He told France's RMC Sport that Alonso will undergo more medical exams next week, but the final call will be down to the Spaniard and the "FIA doctors."

Boullier also admitted, "We still don't know all the causes of the accident. We do know that he is well and that the car is fine. There are no problems on the car but there are still some gray areas to clarify."

Not saying he was not knocked out by the accident. I'm theorising on the cause of the accident and why they are not letting him drive again.

You have to wonder if he will ever get back in a car again if they cannot definitively determine the cause of the accident. It would be a shame.
