Back to back Grand Prix winner Fernando Alonso has admitted he would assist the title challenge of Ferrari's Felipe Massa in the last two races of 2008.

After his disastrous tenure at McLaren last year, the Spaniard makes clear he is not barracking for the British team's Lewis Hamilton, who leads the points standings against Massa by five points.

In the official post-race press conference at Fuji Speedway, Alonso admitted he agreed with the stewards' decision to penalise Hamilton for his first corner incident.

The 27-year-old later told Italy's Sky: "I didn't know why he (Hamilton) had been penalised. After last year, I want Ferrari to win. I will help Massa if I can."

Despite backing Massa over Hamilton, however, Alonso admits he has not been overly impressed with either driver's championship campaign.

"They have thrown away many points," Spain's Diario AS newspaper quotes him as saying.

"After 16 races the leader has 84 points, but I had that many after nine races in 2006," Alonso recalls.

Also unimpressed is the winner of multiple Champ Car titles Sebastien Bourdais, who lost his championship points at Fuji after stewards investigated his collision with Massa.

"He's fighting for the title and taking unnecessary risks like that, as he did with (overtaking) Webber as well.

"You've got everything to lose and nothing to gain. It is a sign of arrogance," the Frenchman charged.

LoL....i just can't believe this. he really has a grudge against Hammi & Mclaren. :D

It is obvious that many drivers are disliking Lewis for many reasons that have been discussed at nausium.

Last time he said something similar he shot himself in the foot, he wants to hope it doesnt come back and bite him in the a$$.

He is certainly knocking hard at Ferrari's door.

FA is, and will be forever rattled that LH was a match for him in the same car.

Leave it to the FIA Fred, your stock is still high.

    +1.

Relevant to nothing: My wife walked in the room as I was watching the post race interviews, and FA was speaking. She asked 'Who's he?'. After I told her she said 'He's cute'.

Alonso is not going to give up any points to help anyone. With the recent performance of the Renault, he will be looking out for only himself.

Most likely, but if he were behind Massa and in front of Hammy, Fernando's car will get extra wide.

The Renault has a special button on the steering wheel that once pushed will bring out the same kind of "spinners" on that chariot in the movie Ben Hur.

He feels just like I did before I was able to afford a Ferrari. He's working on it.

I am still not convinced about FA, he's still one of my least favorite driver on the grid, but I am surprised for sure.

Who knows how he will help Massa, or maybe it's just a stunt to get on the Tifosi's good side and to pave way for him to driver the red car in the future...

i'm sure he'll just make it difficult for LH to pass him if he's trying to. I'm not sure if you noticed the race yesterday but it was difficult for massa to get around button but when LH came up on him he cruised right by! Similarly Rubens made it pretty difficult for LH to get around him but when Massa was coming up he quickly moved out of his way.

Sounds like he's sending up some friendly smoke signals to LdM cuz their's the prospect of an F ride in the future. Heck he's already a team player ;)

no, i didnt noticed about the stuff going on with Button and Rubens, but I wouldn't mind if FA did not see the break marker, and t-boned hamilton's car though..

Again, Alonso acts like an idiot and puts a foot in his mouth. Why?

First, I doubt Luca is going to be swayed by a driver saying he will try to help another teams driver. Actually, if I were Luca, it would reflect very badly on Alonso that he's driving for Renault and outright hoping for Massa to win and saying he will assist another team. If I were Flavio, I would be *furious* about that comment.

Second, if I were Luca, I'd be wondering what this guy is capable of. He can't just leave McLaren - he has to get his digs in on an ongoing basis. McLaren has never said anything bad about Alonso, and there was an agreement in place to say nothing - so why is Alonso on this revenge trip? If I were Luca, I'd be wondering what Alonso would do if things didn't work out at Ferrari? Would be blackmail the team like he did at McLaren? Would he publically state that the team is sabotaging his car like he did when he was driving for Renault? Would he go in the press and complain about his engineers and team like he did at McLaren?

The best thing he can do to ingratiate himself with Ferrari is to shut up, drive well, and stop with the stupid comments. IMO Luca isn't stupid enough to be fooled by it, and if I were Luca, Alonso would have majorly hurt his chances with me by making that comment much more than he got on my good side.

Take a look around, Mike. No one is on LH's side other than Hekki. Hammy pissed a lot of people off with overly agressive moves and arrogant quotes in the press. He's even alienated people that were his friends, Kubica for one. All the other drivers don't want him to win either. Alonso just has the balls to say it. Nothing wrong with that.
