So I'm pretty sure my alternator has begun to fail since I put on new headers. The alternator light has not come on for a couple of weeks now but today it came on again and stayed on... and now instead of a smooth idle at 1000 rpms, my car has a rough, choppy idle at 1200 rpm. Do you think this is connected? Is this a voltage issue? My alternator dash light is on constantly now even at cold start up...and the car still has a rough idle. As I mentioned in another thread my oil pump does not seem to pump oil for a good three or four seconds after the car is on. My air conditioning is acting finicky as well. since all of these problems showed up rather suddenly after the new headers I'm thinking a failing alternator can create a lot of havoc in the overall system correct? Do you guys think this stuff is all related? I tend to think so but need some help. Thanks in advance for any feedback. -Brian

They are almost certainly connected. Have you put a voltmeter on it yet? I would fix the alternator before using the car any more. If you can't find the parts then just bring it to a rebuilder. It's a common alternator. There were a few near you. I think there is still one in the industrial park on rt 9 , I used them once, but I really don't know any more. Look around.

Thanks Taz...where did you source the parts from? I had a very hard time finding them online and was wondering where you got them? I am going to order them right away

Before you rebuild or replace your alternator make sure it isn't the green connector on the alt that is bad. I've had two go wrong in 3~ years.

+1...same deal with my 355. Actually, it's the spade-type connectors that generally go bad. Call Dave Helms at Scuderia Rampante and get the 3 gold connectors. You'll need to pull the connectors out of the old green housing, or you can do what I did and just cut it off, crimp on the new spades, insert into a new green housing, and you're set.

Well the first thing I'm going to do is find a lift to get the car up on since I don't think any of this stuff can be accessed without a lift correct? I am NOT a big fan of crawling under the car with jack stands... I don't know maybe I'm claustrophobic.
When I get it on a lift I'm going to take a look at the green connectors as suggested and I'm guessing the heat from the new headers has baked the alternator to the point of no return. I will order the parts monday when Regitars office is open again.
I will then also put on the heat shields that Ferrari decided they didn't feel like fiddling with. I really wish they had just put them on I probably would not be facing any of these problems.
