Does anyone know what it means if the alt light is permanently on?? I though it might be my voltage regulator on the alternator but the car is running fine just the light is on always now. Can I rule out the alternator now and maybe it is battery?? Thanks for any help
You cant rule the alternator out just yet. It could still be at fault. Get the alternator checked by a good auto-electrician mate.
When the engine is idling, the alternator should be working. If the alternator is working, there will be a magnetic pull from the center of the rear alternator bearing. A long screwdriver can be held in your hand, and will swing towards the bearing if the alternator is charging. It is not a small pull, you will know it if you feel it. Try it when the engine is not too hot yet. Jay
