My understanding of my early '73 Euro fuse panel photos below is that there are four relays and a regulator (first photo has no regulator so you can see the relays clearly). One relay is for the horn, one is for the radiator fans, one is for the headlights, and all three of those are on the wiring diagram in my owner's manual. The regulator (large black box in the middle of the second photo) is also on the wiring diagram. I believe the fourth relay, the one on the far right (closest to the front of the car) is an alternator relay, but it's not on the wiring diagram. Can anyone confirm if (1) it is indeed an alternator relay, (2) what its purpose is, and (3) how it's wired up? My car is too early for a charging system warning light, so the relay is not used for that, but beyond that I have no idea what it would be for.

    1) If it's an 33252E or 33293D, it would be indeed the alternator relay. It was in the L and M series as well as in the early E series, but has been left out later on. The E series circuit diagram does not list it but you can still see it on the M series diagram.

    2) The regulator relay connects the regulator terminal #15 (battery voltage input) with the +12V battery terminal. I am not too sure why it is there, probably to avoid draining battery power when the car is switched off. On later E series, #15 is directly wired to battery plus.

    3) Regulator Relay
C1: to alternator regulator terminal #15 (battery voltage input)
C2: from battery plus main connection point on the fuse panel
W1: from ignition lock terminal #15
    W2: to ground

Hi Adrian, just a quick question regarding the relay. In the compendium it lists this relay as a 33213, from what I can see these are all SPST, are there any difference? Perhaps just the coil resistance? Also, do you know when they stopped firing the relays?
Thank you very much for your help. Clive

33213 and 33293 are SPST relays that have two parallel output terminals (C1, C2), 33252 is an SPDT relay. A 33252 relay can be used to replace a 33213 or 33293 if only one output terminal is required. I don't know when exactly they dropped the relay, i would guess in '72 or later.

Thank you both for your information, it is very helpful.
Mine is also April 73 but an Australian car so RHD. Do you know if the GD or RHD cars had the charging relay? The spare parts book doesn't show it for the GD cars
