    Just a note,

I found the replacement alternator that Pete (Morefan) discovered is available at Amazon for $ 124.85

Its a new Nipondenso part# 101211-7780, 140 amp, same as Ferrari specs. The only thing is one mounting hole has to be enlarged a bit which is no problem, and of course the pulley has to be interchanged.

At that price I think its a good thing to have as a spare so I bought one. There's no way I could get an original rebuilt for that price.

Dave- Need to put that in the interchange document, too, so it does not get lost. At that price, you are correct, worth having a spare lying about.Show us some photos when you get it so we can see which mounting hole needs enlarging.

    Hello
At that price it ll not be a Oem Nippon Denso ;,the original Nippon Denso cost about 750euros to the F dealer. But i think it is better to get the Oem one because it is a weakness part of this car.
More than ten years later, we ll be happy .With another quality one ,it ll end one the flat bed!!
    Ask me how i know!

Dave- Yup, he sure did. Looks like it is only enlarging the hole, so not a big deal.

Phil- You can buy 6 of these for the price of one that comes in a yellow box with cavallinos.

Taz, it just involved drilling out the mounting hole on the inboard side of the alternator, the one OPPOSITE the tensioner that is the fixed point for the case's mounting. Took about 5 minutes...the casing is soft metal so be careful.

As far as buying the OEM unit, Phil you go right ahead. I will stick with the one that I got that has been on my car since that post without issue.

    Regards,
    Pete

Phil- No, you are wrong on that. It is exactly the same quality and made by the same OEM manufacturer. The Ferrari tax comes with the yellow box.

Do you need to change the voltage regulator?

I recall a previous thread mentioning the alternator but thought you needed to interchange the Voltage Regulator.

Although Pete did I can't see any reason to change the VR. Maybe Pete can chime in and explain why he changed it.

Is it related to difference in engine rpm's and possible output?

Nope, that's dictated by pulley diameter.

    Are these 575 compatible?

If so it's a must have spare.

In the spirit of sharing and as a datapoint, I had this alternator rebuilt locally to me in San Jose for $166.

I found this father/son business as recommended by some guys on the Porsche forum.
