    I've got the alternator back in but when I do up the top nut on the slide bar the belt still doesn't seem tight enough, is there a knack to it as I'm struggling and can't see how the belt tensioner works?

    I replaced my belt a few years back,It snapped on a bank holiday,I seem to remember that to get reasonable tension a mate had to hold the alternator with a lever while I tightened everything up.
