I came across this item which is sold by a fellow Fchatter some time ago. it's there to replace the ugly black tubing from k-jetronic to the airbox on the 3x8. I like to buy one but I cannot find the thread which showed it Can anybode advise? Thanx!
I would think that any sort of hard tube would be a bad idea. The engine moves independently of the chassis and it seems that the tube would either crack eventually or the rubber clamp portion would tear from the movement. If the looks of the oem hose is a problem, marine exhaust or marine water hose is available in a variety of sizes. It could even be painted, if desired, to whatever color you wanted. Silicone hose is also available in the same application though it's pricey and unnecessary.
Steven, I believe you mean the one from Motovanti Also try this: http://www.carbonio.net/performancecatalogue_finlettube.htm May get one myself See you
I have one that I used for two months then switched to a carbon fiber one. if you are interested PM me..
Thanks fdekeu for the Motovanti link. Here's a new listing for all. We just built some additional ones. And the 'engine shift' concern has been moved to the myth category. The reaction rod on the engine moves virtually ZERO. (Go ahead and try it.) Thus even a rigid tube would have difficulty cracking itself or anything else, however - - The Motovanti system has soft silicone built for intakes at BOTH ends. This even includes a 'hump' hose at one end. Plus the length of the tube overlaps the inner silicone by a mere 7/8" (just enough to hold the clamp) to take full advantage of the soft mount system. It is over-engineered, quelling any thought of compression or sway variance. See listing and photos here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=290323061481 There were 10 of these built, one sent out today, another claimed, so 8 remain. Just figured I'd post here to alert Fchatters early. Thanks.
AHudson, yeah, trying to make the engine move on it's mounts in the vicinity of the torque arm mounted on the cam cover is going to be difficult to do by hand. However, an engine stall or getting hard on the throttle or quickly closing the throttle at high rpm puts a significant load on the torque arm and the engine does move.....noticeably. Of course, you don't see that when the car is parked in your driveway. The torque arm is there for a very good reason. Personally, I wouldn't put a rigid or semi-rigid inlet tube here, you're just asking for trouble over the long haul. The factory flexible tube works just great.
The reaction rod has a rubber bushing inside it, that even if CRUSHED under a violent shift, would move the engine about 3/8" in that direction. The silicone on the Motovanti is 3" on each end, plus the hump end can be compressed and moved laterally well beyond that of the reaction rod. But if you wouldn't install one, then by all means, don't.
And yet the semi-rigidly mounted exhaust system and headers don't seems to have a problem with the ever so slight movement under extreme conditions, nor do the various large diameter water lines....And please don't tell me that the 40mm rubber water hoses are flexible, once installed. Engine movement under heavy load: Yes Enough movement to cause trouble with the Motovanti intake sytem; Just another Internet folk lore...
Enough movement to cause trouble with the Motovanti intake sytem; Just another Internet folk lore...[/QUOTE] could that be considered an automotive urban legend?
"Enough movement to cause trouble with the Motovanti intake sytem; Just another Internet folk lore..." I suspect that if you were to engage the handbrake, put the car in gear, give it a bit of throttle and slowly let out the clutch, an observer (from the side of the car) would tell you there is a substantial amount of engine movement, especially when going from forward to reverse which will produce double the amount of movement since it will shift in two directions. This will simulate what actually happens as you operate the car. Most engines will shift at least an inch or two in total. Perhaps the Ferrari motor is more rigidly mounted than some but it can't be too rigid at the expense of stress-cracking the frame. But even if the movement is much smaller than I believe it will be, what possible advantage is there to removing a simple rubber hose with 2 hose clamps (3 pieces) and replacing it with a tube, 2 rubber assemblies and 4 hose clamps (7 pieces)?
ALUMINUMYELLOW328. Are you interested in selling yours? I tried to PM you, but it was not possible. Please PM me.
For whatever it's worth, I'll still honor the guarantee. EITHER of you can trade it toward a new one if you want. You know that phrase "ALL SALES FINAL"? Not here. No sale is final. I think 200 or so are out there, had ONE come back because the guy sold the car. Not a problem. Who has time for malcontents? Enjoy your car.
Ah, looking good there AHudson - that'll given plenty sufficient range of motion. Very nice, great looking product and looks well engineered (unlike some of your competitors!). You'll sell a bunch of those and have very satisfied customers I'm sure!
I'm glad you've come to your senses! (A photo always helps.) Given your technical expertise, I realize why you scrutizined closely. Thanks for that. As it stands, I think there are 4 left.
recieved my two last week. They do look great! I will post a picture of one mounted on my 328 asap. thanks Adam for the nice business.
You're very welcome. Hey, we'd love to see the photos. Glad to hear. We'd like to see your pics too! What year did you put it on? UPDATE: I did this as a fundraiser for my daughter to go off to JH Ranch in California this summer for 2 weeks. She used her baby sitting money PLUS the Motovanti sales to pay her portion. Dear ol' daddy (me) did the rest. So, thanks all. The circle of appreciation continues.
Dude I'll be lucky if I get one! She's a delight, but at 15 has gone into the "Could anyone be quite as stupid as my dad?" mode. So, now that I think about it, you probably would get one first. We both went to JH Ranch last year (went with my son two years ago) and she's on her own for this stint, having met a group of girls last summer who struck up an agreement to re-attend. Really good Christian based Adventure camp.
I've had a carbon fibre one on my car for 3 years now, no issues at all Image Unavailable, Please Login
