Periodically I read about someone being able to order a new F car, not having owned one before. Is there still a long wait for all models in the foreseeable future? I am specifically interested in the F12. I''d rather not have to play the 'game' of buying used cars to get a new one.

There never was a (relatively) serious "waiting line" for certain models (California,FF a many others before).
F12 is hard to get at least here in US,dime a dozen in Europe, discounted even.
Allocations for US market are ridiculously low, even now,a year later, especially when compared to 599 when it was introduced (had premiums also but for a very short time)

Well, a lot of times the car is for sale months before it starts production. So, you have to wait.

I disagree that there was no waiting line for the California when it came out. There was. I think the average was about 9 months to a year. The FF (which they sold like 400 in the US) was pretty easy to get right away.

Basically, its supply and demand. Some models are more popular than others.

Complaining about waiting lists is Fchat talking out of both sides of it's mouth at the same time.

    "I don't want to wait!"

    but

"I want exclusivity! Don't make too many!"

You can't have it both ways.

In CA, you have a choice of dealers. Contact them and see what they say. Anything we say is speculation.

CA is the toughest place to get allocation.

F12's are really hard to get.

I waited 3 years to get a new F430 spider in LA. I didn't want to buy a used 360 so I waited, and waited, and waited...

All you can do is call and find out. You have to use the dealer within 150 miles of your location to buy a new car.

Thanks for the thoughts so far. I may contact Auto Gallery which is is my closest authorized dealer. I know they are a large volume but have heard some mixed reviews...

It really varied depending on location, some parts of US (California in particular) get higher allocations but also have incomparably higher demand which creates wait lists even for more mundane models, (while readily available anywhere else).

The 599 waitlist died down after three years - IMO you will be able
to pick up a vacated slot on the F12 in a couple or more years as well

I bought a C7 Corvette from a dealer in Maryland. He has allocation and the West Coast dealer are all idiots so I bought it from them.

There are some restrictions about buying cars across state lines -- not all car dealers like the hassle. It does take extra work depending on the state.

Where did you hear this? They are still on the Ferrari.com website as an authorized dealer.

That is pretty amazing as I think they were one of the highest volume dealers in the nation. They built that fancy new showroom all alone on the hill...I think there was an issue several yrs ago with them taking deposit money but not delivering the goods.

Living in Europe it always shocks me to read how hard it is to get a new(ish) Ferrari in the US. I'm not sure I'd be willing to endure such situation. Paying over MSRP or waiting 2 years? wow.

F car production model is order based within set limits of capacity ( no F car is built without a destination ), while the consumer auto production is absorption based ( production is set to forecasts for future sales ). There always will be a wait, especially if one wants to make choices about the car they are getting... It's about getting a custom car, not one off the lot.
