5000 GT work in progress, not sure if it is #048, or #060, The photos come from a french journalist friend of FRUA, so maybe #060, (AGA KHAN's model) A piece of Maserati History Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting photos. This looks more like a body repair shop and not when then car was initially being constructed. Is this correct? Ivan
Sorry not, the other photos I have clearly show the builduing of the car. He told me the photos were taken in 1962 in Frua's workshop, the car could well be the # 060 because the car has a light cream interior.
# 048 was the 1962 Geneva Motorshow car, painted in gold metallic paint with chamois interior. From my records, # 060 was the Paris Motorshow car, a loan by Aka Khan to the French importer, finished in Penombra paint and beige leather interior. The 2 cars had a major front treatment difference : the # 048 had an aluminium grille, and #060 was painted black.
Correct - but unfortunately the photos does not show that grille. You refer to the original color-specs both cars had when new. But the photos clearly show a Frua in not "as new"-condition. All cars got a new color at some time. I believe the car in those three images is #060. Ciao! Walter
Walter, Just curious: Why do you think that the picture was not taken when the car was first produced (i.e. the body work and interior) at Frua? Gabriel
Gabriel, difficult to say. What irritates me is the white (?) leather interior. #048 came with chamoise (whatever color that is) leather and was renumbered later to #064, now fitted with black leather) #060 came with beige leather when new. #100 came with "suede" leather which, I assume, is a more brown color. So I perhaps have to correct myself here. I think the car shown in those 3 photos is #060 (accoding to the interior-color). In this case the photos indeed show the car "when new". I assume that all 3 photos were made in the Frua premises as Pietro Frua stands on the left of the car. Ciao! Walter
Walter, There seems to be only the drivers seat fitted, could that just be a temporary fitting? The car just does not seem finished enough to have final upholstery fitted. Regards Ian
In other pictures I have seen of the Frua 5000 GTs they all have wire wheels, which the one in this set of photos does not. If it had been under renovation it seems strange that it would not have the wheels it had been delivered with. Could this suggest that the car is under construction and fitted with a temporary set of wheels?
The car is 060 I Will post some bigger size photos when I am back home. It is construction and not restoration, so That explains some "temporary" outfits.
I might be completely wrong, but doesn't the guy with the slicked back dark hair look like Mr. Frua, yes I understand it's hard to tell But similar nose! If so, that would put this pic taken during construction.
