I have a 1968 QP1b 4200 AM 107 2204 with a leaking engine rear main seal. Milo has tried a couple of times to put it right but the aluminum 'springer' seal is still letting some oil through. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

Colin,I rebuilt a 4200 completely for my Mexico. Put in a new seal when I rebuilt it. .You probably already checked for ...distortion or burrs in the housing, distortion of the seal itself, old material(hardened) Inappropriate tool putting in an unlubricated seal, wrong part number. Was the spring inside overstretched? Is the crankshaft scored where the seal contacts? Are you putting it in inside out-check with the WSM. The spring is not aluminum, its stainless. If all else fails keep the seal, part the car.

How old is the seal? There were/are 40 year old NOS seals being sold until recently and they're pretty hard. They can now be had new manufacture. If it's a new manufacture springer seal and the crank is in good shape, you might be getting too much crankcase pressure. Anything coming out the front? They usually don't leak unless the thrust clearance is huge.
