Well after the demise of my 355 in a ball of flames, I have been thinking long and hard about what to replace it with.. another 355... Noble M12.... 996 GT3..... M3 CSL(!!). I finally decided to get the car that was the arch nemesis of the 355 at the time - and the only other car I truly really have an urge to own other than a 355... the 993 Turbo. After my Ferrari experience, I just did not feel comfortable in myself to be able to get another one - at least not yet. Hopefully that feeling changes over time.

Got it on Tuesday, and so far have only managed 100 or so miles in it, so can't really give many comparisons to the 355 as yet.

What I will miss from the 355 is the sense of occasion that it gives when driving - the 993 has very little, you go almost unoticed in it unless am enthusiast spots you and knows what he is looking at. Also will miss the magnificent yowl of the engine / exhaust that you only get with the Ferrari - the Porker sounds like - well a sewing machine to be honest! Have to investigate exhaust options.

What I will say is that the accelaration and handling are stunning. Loads and loads of low down torque, and when the revs rise and both turbos are blowing, the thrust is quite etraordianary. Also the build quality is in another complete league - there is no comparison, the Porsche is so solid and well screwed together its unbelievable. This is what the Germans do best. Feels like it would go on till the end of time.

Lastly, a few quick pictures, took them quickly this morning, car needs a good DB Valet treatment I feel!

So, so long to Ferrari ownership for now, looking forward to getting to know the new beast - and who knows, one day I may be back to the Prancing Horse!

    Eric

Course I will Chaa - this is the best car forum I have ever been on in terms of the characters and banter!

Besides, might even give SteveF something else to take the p1ss out of apart from 8 cylinder Ferrari's :)

Just a reflection!! (he says running downastairs to have a look.....). If you mean the ark area behind the doors, they are the Turbo S air scoops in the rear wings.

    Nah, just a reflection.

Come on Grandad I don't drive a Saxo you know. Besides it was Novas and Renault Turbo's in my day, with 10 inch subwoofers 15 inch wheels and 4 inch exhausts.
