I'm taking my Mondial in tomorrow morning to having the timing belts changed and the center coolant hose replaced. I'm actually nervous about it. I haven't felt this way since the day before my wife was going to go to the hospital to delivery my daughter. The work won't actually be done until Tuesday, and I don't think that I'll be able to pick up the car until the following weekend. It's going to be a long week...

Thoy're doing the right thing. Belts is just the beginning. Look at the small fuel lines and fuel filter while your at it. They are very accessible while your there.

I've been replacing the fuel lines myself. I would tackle the timing belt myself as well if the timing was better. I'm in the process of buying a new house (I close on the 29th) and I can't see having any time to get to the timing belt within the next couple of months. As it is I'll be dropping my car off with some of the interior components removed.

I'm going to assume that you are exaggerating for purposes of illustration and humor :) ???

If you are not (and you are actually serious about that analogy), I would recommend you go see a shrink as your "faculty for assigning emotional significance" needs a major service as well ;)

    It's just a car.........

I'm just teasing you a bit, Jeremy, don't take any offense :)

forgive the question, but why in the world would you drain and bleed the whole cooling system, and only change one hose? i just did all of mine on my 308 GTB QV. i too pay to have some things done on my cars, so thats not the reason i am asking.

i am asking because if one hose is leaking or bad, then all of them are suspect, and i would not want the down time, nor the hassle of flushing, filling and bleeding the car, again to do the other hoses later.

i took my time and changed mine, and noticed many of them were worse on the inside, than the outside would indicate.

    no offense intended.

    It's the hard one...

My quote is to actually replace all the coolant hoses. No coolant hoses are leaking, but they are 25 years old (I'm assuming, as I have no records to prove otherwise). I'll *probably* have them go ahead and replace all of the coolant hoses, but it's the center hose that I'm most concerned about, as it appears to be the biggest bugger to change.

Maybe I did exaggerate a bit... I'm not saying that I don't need to see a shrink, though! Thanks for the reminder that it's just a car! A 25 year old, gas guzzling, emissions belching, slow as molasses car at that. (But I love it!)

thanks for the reply. i removed my AAV on my GTB QV, and changed all 3 of the top engine hoses where they were in under an hour. it was not "easy" but i have 12 years of working on biz jets under my fingernails , so it was not that big a deal. i thought i was going to have to pull the plenum off, but i figured it out !

Superperformance has packaged kits with all the hoses you need. i have been super happy with them and their products.

good call of getting the servicng done. get the water pump replaced, and do the fuel filter unless its been done recently too. the " while you are there" stuff adds up, but then the damn cars will run for 5 years before you have to worry about it!

If you are really nervous then perhaps you should re-examine your choice of a mechanic. None of us love to have our cars out of our control but if you have faith in your mechanic you should sleep well.

When I Lived in Dallas, I took my 328 over to Shadetree to have the fuel lines changed.

I dont recall his name and his wife's but they were very nice, polite, sincere...etc, etc.
    Definetly, recommend them.
Norwood was a consideration too, but I had met Shadetree and his demeanor helped make my decision..

    Good Luck...

Oh, your not being silly either. I'm very protective about my 328...
No one can just work on it. I do my homework, research, visit the shop, shake some hands, etc....
